About Siemens Technology Department

Siemens Technology is the central in-house research unit at Siemens and as such occupies an outstanding position within Siemens' R&D facilities. It acts as a strategic partner to support Siemens’ business units with R&D services, protects the company’s intellectual property, coordinates the collaboration with top universities worldwide, and supports standardization activities in all business units and regions. Through its R&D activities in Germany, USA, Portugal, China, India, Japan, and Eastern Europe, Siemens Technology helps to secure the company’s technological future and strengthen its ambition.

What role will you play?

  • Conduct high-impact research in close relation with our partners in international research projects towards shaping the future of smart field devices and industrial systems and applications.

  • Bring in your ideas, implement them (possibly as open-source) and evaluate them in proof-of-concepts scenarios of varied technological readiness levels.

  • Evaluate and integrate third party software components (open-source, commercial)

  • Engage in requirement engineering, evaluate feasibility and derive specifications

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into practical applications

  • Drive high quality and technical excellence of our deliverables

  • Learn continuously and share with others

We are looking for someone with…

  • A MSc and/or PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics or engineering sciences.

  • Proven experience in embedded systems research or related areas

  • Excellent knowledge of system programming language (e. g., C, C++ or RUST) and high-level programming languages (e. g., Python, Golang, JavaScript)

  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies as well as continuous integration and deployment

  • Communication skills and readiness to work in a team as well as autonomously

  • Very good spoken and written English skills

Would be beneficial experience with…

  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and their implementation on embedded systems

  • Knowledge in networking protocols for real-time and constrained environments

  • Knowledge of distributed systems, especially of IoT and sensor networks

  • Experience in hardware-related programming of real-time operating systems (e.g., freeRTOS, Zephyr) on microprocessors (Arm Cortex, RISC-V, ESP)

  • Knowledge of coding techniques, low-level interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, RS-232, RS-485), protocols and hardware peripherals
