Job Description

The Role: The Deployment Project Manager will lead the deployment of enterprise-wide retail technology and infrastructure projects for Whole Foods network of 500+ stores across 3 countries: US, Canada and UK. The position will lead concurrent infrastructure and software project releases that impact both front and back-end technologies including but not limited to POS, payment terminals, and checkout technologies, which involves influencing cross-functional internal technical and non-technical stakeholders, and external delivery partners.You are:You have a breadth of expertise leading enterprise-wide retail deployments and your strong process, planning, analytical, and release skills improve the lives of our 100K+ team members. You bring your commitment to operational excellence, while you develop and orchestrate project plans using MS Project, SmartSheets, Jira etc, identify risks and tradeoffs and mitigate scope creep and delays across all project teams. You bring a passion for communicating clear and concise project timelines to all levels across the organization and dive deep into the system and network design to understand up and downstream impact of deployments with scaleability and reliability in mind.

The Team: Whole Foods Market Retail Technology Delivery team leads, plans, and coordinates all aspects of complex highly distributed infrastructure implementation and upgrades, and information system-specific projects from initiation to delivery.   • Understand project stakeholder goals and expectations and assess impact to overall release management strategies.

  • Total lifecycle portfolio management from requirements gathering through closing phase, while assisting in the internal development of business process and document formation for PMO

  • Develop the solution operational readiness and release/delivery plan based on program business and technical objectives. Integrate deployment activities from each project work plan team and clearly capture key deployment milestones and dependencies.

  • Manage project artifacts, such as project plans, status reports, risk and issue logs, and change requests, to ensure timely delivery of high-quality IT projects; demonstrated strong leadership and collaboration skills in managing end-to-end teams of engineers for various IT projects, ensuring successful completion of all project milestones and objectives.

  • Provide day-to-day activities related to all deployment or operational readiness activities (e.g. Change Enablement & Operational Readiness, Service Introduction, Deployment and post Deployment support).

  • Manage project teams comprised of team members, and contractors. Define team member roles and expectations for rollout.

  • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations. Manage relationships with all relevant suppliers and subcontractors. Monitor their progress and adherence to the contract/delivery expectations.

  • Build and maintain relationships with IT teams within other programs. Work to identify dependencies between different large programs and manage cross-program resource allocations.

  • Assess program deployment risks, issues and impact on overall solution delivery commitments, objectives, etc.

  • Manage/Lead the creation of multiple release schedules and release management plans based upon planned Whole Foods Retail Systems release cycles.

  • Provide weekly release/delivery status reports and participate in broader leadership status meetings.

    Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS degree and 5-7 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. (required)

  • 3 to 5 years of leading Retail enterprise-level application implementations.

  • Proven track record in leading planning and deployment HW and/or SW, leveraging a matrixed team within a large, complex and critical portfolio. This includes adherence to SLDC deliverables and change management/operational readiness activities.

  • Demonstrates strength to build and maintain strong business and IT relationships across teams. This includes the ability to hold teams accountable and influence critical business outcomes across a complex organization.

  • Must possess professional confidence and credibility with the presence and communication skills to represent IT effectively across a diverse audience ranging from technical teams to senior business and technical leadership.

  • Exhibit the flexibility necessary to effectively manage change and thrive in an evolving organization.

  • Ability to balance work between immediate demands and long-term objectives.

  • Know when, where and how to use processes appropriate for the initiative at hand.

  • Possess great problem-solving and analytical skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on complex projects with multi-tier architecture in a global and regional environment.

  • Experience in linking cross-functional applications between disparate business units and systems.

  • Experience operating within a large program, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and date-driven environment.

  • Strong knowledge of system and software delivery/deployment best practices and methodologies.
