Our Opportunity:

The Tools Solutions team, part of the Office of the Chief Technology Officer, develops consistent processes, tools and reporting solutions for the application development lifecycle, in support of the Development and QA community within Schwab Technology Services. We are currently offering the opportunity for a Staff Software Systems Engineer to join our team.

What you’ll do:

Provide hands-on development and support for various tools used for application development. These tools include, but are not limited to, Application Lifecycle Management, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, Agile Planning, Source Code Management, Testing, Build, Security, and Automation. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze, propose, test, and implement software in a timely manner

  • Identify issues in existing code and recommend solutions

  • Become a Subject Matter Expert on assigned tools

  • Participate in Tools Governance reviews; assist in developing standards for tool usage and evaluate new tools to meet emerging business needs

  • Ensure that all development practices are in compliance with employer’s best practices, policies, and procedures

  • Provide guidance to end users on how best to configure and use tools

  • Communicate with individuals on application teams including Managers, Developers, Project Managers, and Infrastructure Support

  • Work with end users to troubleshoot and resolve tool usage issues

What you have:

  • BA/BS or higher degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in application development for reliability, scalability, performance, robustness, security, manageability, and maintainability/extensibility

  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, including hands-on experience with Agile development processes

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment across multiple time zones and locations

  • Ability to multi-task with numerous activities running concurrently

  • Passionate about helping others become successful with their use of our tool set

  • Highly curious nature and willingness to learn through multiple methods, including independent research and self-study

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a desire to share knowledge through creation and refinement of written content

  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills with a solid ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs and manage their expectations through effective communication

  • Experience with Atlassian tool stack strongly desired

  • Familiarity with other tools such as TFS, Visual Studio, Jenkins, GIT, etc is a plus

  • Experience in a DevOps / CD / CI oriented environment strongly desired

  • Experience with Java and Linux desired

  • Experience with financial services or other highly regulated industries desired
