Genesee Community College Applications Analyst in Batavia, New York

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

This position functions as a developer of business-related applications, such as Slate, Canusia, Argos, OBIEE, and other technical systems. The Applications Analyst will work closely with all functional offices to manage these applications, troubleshooting data where appropriate. The Applications Analyst will also develop reports in existing software and will investigate new software when appropriate.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Manage Slate, Canusia, and other forms that input data into Banner and other databases.

a. Works closely with other departments for reporting, data analysis, and other communication efforts with recruits, applicants, and students.

B. Actively develop reports using software such as Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), Argos, Power BI, and other related software.

a. Create, pull, and analyze communication reports. b. Extract data as needed for reports and research by leadership within the Enrollment Division and other college divisions. c. Assist in the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of GSI and Argos dashboard.

C. Serve as the lead ITS expert for working with users on changes in existing software and changes in technology as related to A and B.

D. Data Standards and Other Related Teams:

a. Serve as an active member of GCC's ASDI Committee.

E. Assist in presentation of trainings and workshops for college employees to assist them in using Banner and BI data systems to retrieve information needed to support decision-making processes.

F. Contribute to instruction of training courses for campus computing users and staff where appropriate. Attend training seminars and business meetings to extend specialized skills for staff and project management as approved by the CIO.

G. Continuously research "best practices" in information storage, gathering and dissemination at other colleges.

H. Explore emerging technologies in computing and applications software.

I. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Associate's degree is required; bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Degree in Computer Science, Applied Statistics, or related area is preferred. Substantial coursework in computer science, applied statistics, and other technical areas highly preferred.

Experience

3 years of experience required for those holding less than a bachelor's degree (Ie: Associate's) At least one (1) year of experience working with large Data Information Systems is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have database programming experience and experience involving data management in Admissions, Records, Institutional Research, or Information Technology. Experience with Ellucian Banner, working in a team environment, and in the application of data-related findings as they relate to business process improvements is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The following skills are required:

  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage data input forms in multiple systems such as Slate and Canusia

  • Demonstrated ability to query a Student Information System such as Ellucian Banner to create informational reports using Microsoft Access, Argos, SPSS, OBIEE, or similar software

  • CRM development, automation, scriptwriting, AI, report writing, import creation, training, troubleshooting, and maintenance of systems/platforms.

  • Manage the flow between the SIS (Banner) and CRM platform

  • Act as the liaison between enrollment, Ellucian and Computer Services and other offices as needed for requests concerning server and software maintenance as related to enrollment technologies.

  • Test processes, including integration with third party vendors, such as document imaging software and SIS

  • Demonstrated ability to write analyses and create dashboards using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), Argos, or other reporting software

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines, bringing them to timely and successful conclusions

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse range of colleagues with varied skills, responsibilities, and interests

The following are desired, but not required:

  • Competency in computer related activities including a high proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and in database software such as MS Access.

  • Knowledge of applied statistical processes

  • Ability to clearly explain technical data to non-technical audiences

RELATIONSHIPS:

This position reports to the Director of Institutional Research and Planning.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time, year-round position at 35 hours per week. Position is compensated at a rate of $54,141.85 - $59,556.04 annually. Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.
