Job Description:

The Center for Advanced Microelectronics Manufacturing at Binghamton University is the nation's first prototype R&D facility in large-area flexible electronics. It is home to both the NYS NextFlex Node for Flexible Hybrid Electronics and the NYS Center for Advanced Technology for Flexible Hybrid Medical Device Manufacturing (FlexMed). The CAMM facilities are maintained by PhD-level professional staff and offers expert training of students, scientists and engineers in experimental techniques; technical expertise necessary to operate sophisticated experimental equipment effectively and consistently; facilitated cooperation between industry and universities; and a meeting ground for researchers to foster interactions that may develop into new interdisciplinary collaborations.

The Assistant Technical Director will provide engineering, development and research services in support of current funded program of flexible hybrid electronics manufacturing projects here at the Binghamton University campus. The Assistant Technical Director will install, operate, program and modify laboratory equipment to carry out experiments. In addition, he/she will use various campus facilities to fabricate samples, test fixtures, and equipment required during the investigations. This position will report directly to Mark Poliks, Director of the Center for Advancement Microelectronics Manufacturing.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assist in writing proposals with company partners and to federal and state agencies

  • Train undergraduate and graduate students to safely perform experimental work in the CAMM facilities

  • Assist in managing multiple projects and balancing workload among the team members

  • Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations on the status of projects to funding agencies

  • Prepare presentations for conferences and workshops

  • Prepare manuscripts for publications

  • Assist in the development of training modules for use in academic classes and workforce development programs

Requirements:

  • MS in physics, chemistry or engineering

  • At least 5 years experience working in a microelectronics research and/or manufacturing environment

  • Proven knowledge of flexible hybrid electronics and printing of smart electronics on flexible substrates

Preferred

  • PhD in a relevant area of study is preferred

  • Experience with medical device manufacturing a plus

Salary: $78,000 annually for this 100% FTE position
