Summary Description: Music at Colorado College invites students to explore the ways music is central to human life through a combination of analytical methodologies, creative processes, and performance practices from the past and present. The Technical Director supports such efforts in and out of the classroom, with a particular emphasis on digital technologies. They oversee operations of the recording studio and report to the Chair of the Music Department.

Anticipated Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,691 per year

Responsibilities:

Academic Instructional Support:

Guide and mentor students using the Packard recording spaces and music technology equipment and software, participating in music courses to support technical classroom instruction and independent projects via relevant tools and techniques. Create and update asynchronous instructional support video tutorials covering specific practical technological tools and techniques utilized in music classes and in the studio.

Department Technical Support:

Serve as lead engineer for recording sessions and live sound reinforcement throughout the Packard spaces, coordinating, scheduling, and supervising all such activities throughout the academic year and summer session. Implement and maintain audio and music technology for the music department throughout the Packard spaces, coordinating with faculty to purchase and deploy new equipment. Maintain oversight of the music technology spaces and equipment, including small repairs and coordinating large repairs off campus, ensuring spaces are functional and organized. Supervise, trains and schedule student workers to serve as studio and live-sound engineers, supporting the recording and events archiving endeavors of the department.

Additional Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of studio recording experience (including thorough understanding of contemporary digital music recording and production; expert knowledge of DAW's, signal flow, signal processing and the software and hardware required to create professional multi-track recordings; and experience recording music from a variety of genres and styles, including Classical); experience supervising and mentoring students; enthusiastic team oriented work ethic, along with an ability to act independently, plan one's own schedule, and maintain the schedules of student employees; an ability to communicate between varying levels of exper

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in music; interest in continuously learning and implementing new technologies and a desire for experimentation; some live sound reinforcement experience; live recording experience; a willingness to seek out new ways to involve the campus and community in the CC music technology program.
