Key job responsibilities

• Lead your team to build a brand new product with quality, robustness and Amazon sized scale as top priorities.

• Prioritize being a really great people manager. Building, motivating, rewarding and coaching a diverse team of Software Development Engineers is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.

• Contribute to architecture and design discussions for full stack software.

• Lead your team to evolve our service architecture with quality, robustness and Amazon sized scale as top priorities. You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.

• Set a vision for your team and create product roadmaps.

• Help your team sort out technical and product requirements and priorities. Deliver product roadmap items and cross-team projects.

• Delight your customers. Internalize our customer challenges and derive creative solutions which apply new and innovative technology.

About the team

As one of the four focus areas for the Foundational People Data Services (FPDS) organization, DCX delivers secure, reliable, and high-speed data services, similar to AWS, but specifically tailored for worker data. Today, builder teams across Amazon rely on DCX services for accessing the people data they need to power over 2,800 applications and services. When the most up-to-date worker data is needed, they rely on real-time data and event APIs (PAPI, PeopleBus, DAAPI, and DomainBus). We abstract builders from the complexity of needing to know which worker data attribute came from which domain through our Data Materialization (DMat) service, which creates customized datasets from multiple business domains. Additionally, our security services ensure access to sensitive data adheres to worker data protection standards (e.g., GDPR) and policy eligibility is kept up-to-date through rigorous, automated governance procedures.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience

• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

• 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
