Dartmouth Health Part Time Emergency Department Volunteer & Administrative Coordinator (16hrs/week) in Lebanon, New Hampshire

Overview

In conjunction with the Director of DHMC Volunteer Service and under the direction of the Emergency Department Manager manage all aspects of the emergency department volunteer program. (Annually approximately 30 volunteers contribute over 4,400 hours of volunteer service within the department). This involves: interviewing candidates, coordinating orientation, training and schedules, providing educational opportunities for the volunteers (writing letters of reference for medical school admission and other post graduate programs), and the development of strategies focusing on patient/family advocacy and better community relations. Function as a good will ambassador for the department through multiple assignments: editor of the department’s quarterly newsletter, tour guide for emergency medical services EMT classes and other visitors to the department, chair or active member of patient satisfaction and various other committees, and liaison with CHAD (Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth – Child Life Program) regarding stuffed animals (toys for pediatric patients) and other pediatric related issues. Other assignments deemed appropriate by the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Emergency Department Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all aspects of the emergency department’s day to day volunteer program.

  • Researches and implements strategies involving the volunteers as E.D. Patient Advocates.

  • Writes letters of recommendation for volunteers to medical schools and/or other educational institutions leading to degrees in the medical field or other professions.

  • Works closely with the Director of Volunteer Services to manage the E.D. volunteer program in a manner that mirrors the goals and mission of the DHMC Volunteer Program.

  • Assists with the development of collateral materials that support the work of the volunteer program and improve patient family relations within the emergency department.

  • Edits and produces a quarterly emergency department newsletter that reflects the good work and activities of the emergency department staff.

  • Updates and maintains the photographic magnet board that reflects daily staffing within the department. This assignment requires both photo digital and computer skills.

  • Acts as tour guide for emergency medical services EMT classes and visitors to the department.

  • Involvement as chair or active member of patient satisfaction and various other committees.

  • Responsible for other assignments deemed appropriate by the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Emergency Department Nurse Manager.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
