Position Summary:

Extension 4-H Program Worker: Will plan for and provide 4-H educational programming for youth ages 5-19 in both Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties, using Apple Community Education Initiative technology and 4-H curriculum resources. Focus in Leelanau will be STEAM programming in partnership with local libraries and through outreach events; focus in Grand Traverse will be Jr. Master Gardener and other 4-H youth programs through the end of the five-county fair.

Work 20 hours a week in each county (Leelanau and Grand Traverse) for a total of 40 hours a week.

Duties: Work with 4-H staff to plan and present 4-H programming using the Apple CEI equipment (iPads, Apple Pencils, and Sphero robots) in Leelanau and work with Extension Master Gardeners to provide Jr. Master Gardener programs and work with the Northwest Michigan 4-H Livestock Council and teen reps to prepare for activities before and during the Northwestern Michigan Fair. Work with community partners (schools, libraries, and other groups) to provide 4-H programs and help during outreach events.

Position Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Desired Qualifications

  • Understanding of and ability to implement Civil Rights principles and compliance standards.

  • Individual working toward an education degree or another youth development degree.

  • Experience working with youth preferred;

  • Comfortable with public speaking and leading groups.

  • Ability to lift and carry educational materials, equipment, etc. up to 25 lbs.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in use of technology (e.g., web research, Zoom, Apple products, Qualtrics, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook for mail/calendaring, distance technology, social media, etc.).

  • Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
