Town of Leesburg Water Treatment Plant Operator in Leesburg, Virginia

The Town of Leesburg is seeking a journey-level Utility Plant Operator within its Water Supply Division for the Department of Utilities. The Water Supply Division is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Towns Kenneth B. Rollins Water Treatment Plant (WTP), one well, five water storage tanks, and four water booster stations.


What You'll Be Doing** This position involves journey-level technical work in the Water Supply Division in the operation, maintenance and cleaning of a water treatment plant, associated facilities and plant grounds. Work involves responsibility for the operation, monitoring, and control of the facility on a shift under the close guidance of senior operations personnel. Work involves conducting tests in a microbiology lab; adjusting treatment processes to ensure conformance with applicable standards; operating wells, storage tanks and booster stations; participating in the maintenance of equipment and facilities; performing data entry on a computer; and preparing operating reports and records.

*Schedule* This position requires working rotating shifts (days/nights), including weekends and holidays.

Required Qualifications

Utility Plant Operator I $53,000-$98,050 DOQ

  • HS/GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating a water treatment plant facility.
  • Water or environmental laboratory experience.
  • Possession of a current Class III Water Works Operator License as issued by Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Virginia Waterworks Regulations.
  • Knowledge in MS Suite applications and computer program applications appropriate to the position.
  • Available and able to work rotating shifts (days/nights), including weekends and holidays.

OR

Utility Plant Operator II $55,650-$104,900 DOQ

  • HS/GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible work in water treatment.
  • Water or environmental laboratory experience.
  • Experience with industrial computer control systems (SCADA) and process control systems.
  • Possession of a current Class II Water Works Operator License as issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
  • Available and able to work rotating shifts (days/nights), including weekends and holidays.

OR

Utility Plant Senior Operator $60,373-$113,804 DOQ

  • Graduation from high school (or GED), plus five years of progressively responsible work in water or wastewater treatment.
  • Possession of a Class I Water Works Operator License or Class I Wastewater Operator's license as issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • Completion of relevant NIMS ICS training courses within 6 months of hire date

Preferred Qualifications

Utility Plant Operator I

  • Backflow device certification.
  • Experience with SCADA and Process C ntrol Systems.
  • Completion of VDH/VWEA Operators Short School - Virginia Tech.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

OR

Utility Plant Operator II

  • Backflow device certification.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry or other related science.
  • Bacteriology laboratory experience.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

*OR*

*Utility Plant Senior Operator*

  • Supervisory and training experience.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry or other related science.
  • Completion of VA Operators Short School, Level 3.
  • Possession of a valid commercial drivers license with appropriate endorsements and a safe driving record.
