Our opportunity:

The Event Manager is responsible for events ranging in size from 10 to 200 participants supporting Independent Branch Services (IBS). Our Independent Branches are managed by Independent Branch Leaders (IBLs) who are independent franchisees and registered representatives and investment advisors of Schwab. This innovative franchising program pairs the strength of experienced, driven, and service-oriented financial advisors with the powerful reputation, modern wealth management capabilities, and investor-first philosophy of Schwab. IBS launched to accelerate asset growth in key markets and is focused on driving new-to-firm acquisition.

This position will work with internal business partners in the Independent Branch Services organization to ensure that the event portfolio and client experience align and support business objectives and firm priorities. Additionally, this position will support the IBLs directly for planning and execution of their Grand Opening events. New market launch is a critical component to establishing Schwab and the Branch Leader in their local community.

The Event Manager is responsible for designing, planning and supporting meetings, events and programs nationwide. This position reports to the Managing Director, Regional Events.

What you'll do:

  • Support of Discovery Day events, a high touch experience for potential IBL finalists and a key part of the IBL selection process (two per quarter); Planning of Independent Branch Grand Openings nationwide (approximately five per quarter); Schwab expert speaker series events (two per quarter); support of multi-day regional offsites (four in Q3).

  • Creating unique, highly experiential, innovative and distinct event experiences that serve to differentiate Schwab from its competition. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the markets that this role supports and skilled at bringing new ideas to the table in an inspirational and approachable format.

  • Continually driving and enhancing the end-to-end client experience, ensuring that all attendee touch points, from the initial invitation to the on-site event experience, are delivered with the highest level of quality and consistency, creativity and differentiation.

  • Ensuring that all events and associated collateral appropriately reflect the Schwab brand.

  • Vendor selection, outside vendor management

  • Site selection for hotels and event venues

  • Hotel negotiations, hotel management

  • Strong fiscal discipline by managing an overall budget at the program and event level

  • Creating event experience overview decks

  • Pre-planning and communication of logistics, as well as on-site management

  • Collateral: consultant for event-related pieces (invitations, website, post-event follow-up)

What you have:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in event planning and execution, with a clear history of assuming increasing levels of responsibility and accountability

  • Experience planning and creating high touch, highly experiential, events for clients, employees and/or executives, ideally with previous corporate experience. A top candidate will come with a breadth of experience in client hospitality and multi-faceted events. Work samples that show a range of events with various budgets and formats are appreciated.

  • An innovative and creative thinker, with an eye for detail, and a strong understanding of how successful and engaging events are planned and executed

  • Forward thinking mind with a focus on designing unique, personalized and creative event experiences; has a strong desire to do things differently and challenge the norm

  • Ability to manage events of varying sizes and levels of complexity

  • Ability to be nimble, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity; ability to course correct when confronted with changing decisions and circumstances; ability to influence and lead

  • Solid contract negotiation skills. Contracts will include venues, caterers, décor and lighting companies, DMCs, etc.

  • Excellent budget management skills, including the ability to meet monthly deadlines and quarterly spend requirements

  • Strong collaboration and long-term partnership skills, working with EPS colleagues, Independent Branch Services partners, Marketing, Legal/Compliance and 3rd party vendors

  • Website copy and layout development experience (coding knowledge not required)

  • Experience coordinating registration, including complex housing management

  • Experience with travel arrangements, including air and ground transportation knowledge.

  • Strong on-site execution experience, including management of onsite travel directors and oversight of multiple vendors

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer servicing skills

  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and listening

  • Proficiency in PowerPoint for experiential decks and run of show planning purposes

  • Strong presentation skills and confidence to convey ideas to regional teams and senior leadership.

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
