Our Opportunity:

Charles Schwab Investment Advisory (CSIA) is a team of nearly 40 investment professionals focused on rigorous investment manager research. Based on parameters developed by Schwab, CSIA provides research and evaluates managers for the Schwab Managed Account Select® wrap fee program, creates the Schwab mutual fund lists and ETF Select List, and provides portfolio management services for both the Schwab Managed Portfolios™ wrap fee program and the Schwab Intelligent Portfolios™ robo-advisor program.

What you’ll do:

  • As a research analyst in CSIA’s operational due diligence group, you will follow established research processes and procedures in performing qualitative research on investment managers (mutual funds, separately managed accounts, and ETFs)

  • Develop processes for ensuring investment manager documentation is up to date and complete

  • Enhance current processes and procedures to further develop operational report generation, quarterly reporting and ad hoc analysis

  • Create periodic operational due diligence reports on assigned investment managers

  • Present findings to appropriate oversight committees

  • Manage emerging third party risk

  • Conduct ongoing daily monitoring of regulatory, industry and company news and filings

  • Help manage database for CSIA’s operational due diligence program

  • Responsible for sending out and evaluating an annual request for information (RFI) to current investment managers on Charles Schwab & Co. sponsored separately managed account platforms

  • Independently perform operational due diligence onsites on current and potential investment managers as needed

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred

  • 5+ years of third-party risk management, operational risk, compliance, audit or related experience

  • 2-5 years of industry experience

  • Ability to work independently in manager evaluation and to represent CSIA professionally in on-site manager meetings

  • Ability to independently manage meetings with external executive level leadership

  • Detail oriented with analytical proficiency; able to navigate ambiguous situations

  • Ability to travel up to 50%

  • The ideal candidate will have a strong interest/passion for our industry, creating plans to identify opportunities and overcome challenges

  • Works with compliance and legal to update policies and procedures, reporting templates and program monitoring as needed

  • Proven skills in data collection, management and reporting

  • Superior analytical skills, research capabilities and attention to detail

  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to develop concise and effective communications tailored to specific audiences
