Job ID360145 LocationTwin Cities Job FamilyResearch-Researchers Full/Part TimeFull-Time Regular/TemporaryRegular Job Code8352R1 Employee ClassCivil Service About the Job Major job functions for this position include the following. 1) Laboratory experiments - 80% - Perform multiple complex scientific procedures effectively, efficiently and independently. - Meet project specifications on time. - Track multiple concurrent projects. - Maintain a required high level of cleanliness and refined processing technique to ensure samples are not contaminated. - Troubleshoot experiments. - Operate all related specialized instrumentation and technologies, i.e. QC equipment, expression High-throughput Quantitative RT-PCR, droplet digital PCR, liquid handling robots. - Maintain instrumentation per manufacture protocols. - Work collaboratively with other staff and researchers. - Follow strict BSL-2 and Clinical processing procedures. 2) Data Collection and Analysis - 20% - Collect and analyze data using custom or vendor software. - Evaluate and clearly communicate experimental results. - Ability to accurately enter, interpret and analyze data. - Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. 40-hour work week will be arranged ahead of time which may include nights and weekends. Qualifications Required (Minimum) Qualifications: Position requires BA/BS in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, or a combination of education and work experience to equal 4 years. Demonstrated experience, SARS-CoV-2 research and diagnostic testing is required. Ability to follow oral directions and written protocols precisely, independently motivated, able to manage time and meet deadlines, strong communication skills, meticulous organizational skills, reliability and accountability of work. Preferred Qualifications: (Selection Criteria) Extensive molecular biology laboratory experience in preparation of I next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries,RT-qPCR or ddPCR techniques and analysis, and informatics and scripting knowledge. About the Department This position is located in the University of Minnesota Genomics Center (UMGC) where we provide services to University and external researchers. This position will involve carrying out inactivation, extraction, and Rt-qPCR or ddPCR of SARS-nCoV2 specimens under a CLIA regulated environment. Team members will be expected to work collaboratively, meet CLIA requirements for sample and reagent tracking/documentation, assist in making proprietary reagents, and other general laboratory duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
