JPMorgan Chase Legal Control Manager - Vice President in Plano, Texas

Serve as a trusted legal partner in the mitigation of operational risk within a top global financial firm.

As a Vice president and Control Manager, you will be responsible for leading and building out an enhanced control framework which supports a continuous and integrated approach to risk assessment. Additionally, you will ensure the team assists in top-down risk analysis, real time control issue detection, escalation, root cause analysis and remediation. A sound understanding of assessing IT applications, intelligent solutions risk and control assessment, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) controls testing is expected.

Job responsibilities

  • Create a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols

  • Review and analyze program related data (e.g., KRI/KPI) to support business-related programs and strategies

  • Provide leadership support for the end-to-end execution of the firm-wide Compliance, Operational, Risk Evaluation Program (CORE), including control breaks and resolutions, to reduce financial loss, regulatory exposure, and reputational risk

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the legal department management by providing assistance and guidance in adhering to the CORE program and implementing controls to effectively mitigate operational risk as the legal function carries out its mission and objectives.

  • Engage with control colleagues across the firm, business, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, regulators and technology control functions

  • Partner with the process owners to be compliant with the Firm-wide programs i.e. mapping of legal obligations, intelligent solutions, compliance groups, legal entity tagging to processes identified with operational risk housed in the system of record

  • Perform pre-Audit (3rd line of defense) and Compliance (2nd line of defense) readiness reviews with Process Owners to ensure satisfactory outcome

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

  • At least 7 years of financial service experience in controls, audit, quality assurance, risk management, or compliance preferred

  • Proficient knowledge of control and risk management concepts with the ability to design, create, and evaluate a Risk & Control Self-Assessment in conjunction with business partners.

  • Possess sense of urgency, intellectual curiosity, flexibility in shifting and competing priorities and deliverables, problem solving skills

  • Strong understanding of internal control principles, COSO framework , Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) requirements

  • Attention to detail and strong time management, project management and collaboration skills to drive initiatives forward

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact confidently with Senior Executives and External Stakeholders and train others
