Catholic Health Services ED Technical Assistant in Port Jefferson, New York

St. Charles Hospital is a New York State Department of Health and Joint Commission designated Primary Stroke Center. Our Emergency Room serves more than 25,000 senior, adult and pediatric emergency room patients each year ranging from a wide array of medical issues including critical or complex conditions such as heart attack and stroke to simpler yet urgent problems. Our emergency room physicians are board-certified in emergency medicine and expertly trained in treating critical and complex conditions including (but not limited to) Stroke, Heart Attack (Chest Pain), Severe Sepsis, COPD, Gastrointestinal Bleeds, Acute Renal Failure, and complications involving Pacemakers. The St. Charles medical team also includes nurse practitioners and nurses specially trained in emergency and critical care. Medical specialists are called upon as needed and include obstetrics, neurology, orthopedics, pediatrics and surgery. Our services include 18 beds, 6 private treatment rooms and 1 specialized orthopedic treatment room, a negative pressure room to isolate patients with communicable illnesses, like the flu; bedside ultrasound, when appropriate, to speed evaluation and diagnosis, and a State-of-the-art digitized radiography system. The Emergency Department Technician assists in the care of patients by performing various duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Job Details Our ED Tech will: Function under the supervision of the licensed Registered Nurse and provides basic nursing care to ensure the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of our patients. Be able to recognize, obtain, document, and report data to appropriate staff. Deliver direct care to patients and create a safe, comfortable environment. Assist with selected procedures associated with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients, as according to established hospital policy and procedures. Appropriately place patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff. Accurately collect, communicate, and document patient data in the Electronic Medical Record Function appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations. Assist with transfer of patient to a bed, wheelchair or stretcher utilizing patient care equipment safely as needed Perform and maintain competencies related to EKG's and phlebotomy Qualifications: Passion for Patient Care Prior EMT experience preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED required Certification: EKG certification, Phlebotomy certification, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications are all required Salary Range USD $21.42 - USD $29.17 /Hr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
