DIRECTOR OF PLANNING & URBAN DEVELOPMENT
Planning & Urban Development Department
The City of Portland is looking for a Planning and Urban Development Director to join its leadership team helping to run Maines largest and most complex municipality.
Portlands Planning and Urban Development Department is responsible for shaping the city through its many strategic initiatives, including primary responsibility for shepherding Portlands Plan 2030, the Citys Comprehensive Plan, which serves as a policy guide for the entire city. Other major policy efforts include a Housing Data Dashboard, a significant ReCode project, and many others. In addition to the strategic initiatives, the Department is responsible for ongoing development review, historic preservation improvement and enforcement, transportation planning, and other long-range initiatives.
The Director reports to one of the two Assistant City Managers, oversees an operating budget of \$1.9 million, and is fully staffed with 17 employees.

- A high degree of professionalism and proven leadership skills, including the ability to effectively motivate and manage people and projects, even with limited resources.
- Strong collaborative skills that achieve group goals from the coordinated work of interactive teams and partnerships with other City departments, staff, elected and appointed officials, the public, and external stakeholders.
- Thorough knowledge of municipal finance, along with the skills to develop and adhere to operating and capital budgets and proactively seek additional resources to maximize their impact.
- Effective communications skills with an ability to productively engage staff, colleagues, and stakeholders with tact, diplomacy and professionalism.
- Considerable knowledge of, and experience with, personnel management, including direct supervision and performance evaluation.
The right candidate will have significant experience as a leader in the field of planning and urban development, including considerable supervisory experience.

Salary & Benefits:
Non-Union position Grade E83 - The starting salary range is \$119,868 - \$138,890, annually depending on skills and experience, and the full salary range is up to \$151,885.
