Estes Express Lines Compensation Analyst II in Richmond, Virginia

Job Summary:

The Compensation Analyst II is an intermediate-level position responsible for providing compensation support in developing and administering company compensation programs, systems and special projects in collaboration with team members, customers and management. This position reports to the Director, Compensation & Talent Analytics who reports to the Vice President, Human Resources. The successful candidate has 2 or more years of Compensation experience, advanced excel skills; strong analytical skills and a desire to identify, and resolve, complex issues. The Compensation Analyst II will have a medium degree of innovation, creativity and decision-making latitude.

  • Under general guidance of the Director, performs a variety of complex technical duties relating to compensation through research of best practices and in collaboration with Estes’ team members and internal customers.

  • Work with management to identify job description needs and assist with writing and defining job(s) based on business needs. Evaluate exemption status, career level, pay, and FLSA classifications. Collaborate with Director to ensure decision documentation and risk mitigation.

  • Regularly audit compensation related business processes and data to identify legal liability and opportunities for improvement.

  • Review, track and maintain job descriptions in job description software (JDX/HRTMS). Serve as system administrator in collaboration with team members.

  • Assist and/or manage analysis, design, and administration of compensation plans including base and incentive pay; organize data to submit to market compensation surveys and perform ongoing competitive analyses using survey data and tools such as PayFactors.

  • Assist and/or manage compensation-related processes, e.g., CPA (Company Performance Adjustment), PMP (Performance Management Process) and other compensation projects; identify opportunities for improvement to increase operational efficiencies.

  • Effectively interact and communicate with customers to ensure understanding of compensation data/report requests and business needs; ask clarifying questions and provide timely results

  • Extract data from various system databases for analysis in Excel. Create, develop and implement compensation data visualizations within Excel and/or other dashboard tools, e.g., Power BI

  • Regular attendance is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field highly preferred or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background. World at Work Compensation Certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years prior experience in Compensation required. Strong knowledge of mathematical and financial principles required

  • Ability to handle confidential data and requests and maintain confidentiality of work products required

  • Advanced Excel skills (Data preparation/cleansing, Complex formulas, pivot tables, graphs, etc.) and strong overall understanding of Microsoft Office products required. Experience with SQL and Power BI preferred.

  • Ability to extract, combine, and manipulate data from HRIS and other systems required

  • Strong verbal, written, listening and presentation skills; customer focus and results orientation required

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team and other colleagues required

  • Must possess a strong work ethic with flexibility in work schedule with travel as required

  • Previous experience with Compensation related systems such as job description management (e.g., JDX/HRTMS), performance management, and compensation planning systems (e.g. PayFactors) highly preferred

  • Must be able to lift approximately 20 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job

  • Must be able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct

  • Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting

  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities

  • Responds well to questions; Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Pay Range: $54,000 - $82,300 / year
