We're looking for a talented technologist to own the overall technical architecture leadership of the web platforms in Schwab’s Applications Architecture team. The Web Platform Architect is a key member of the platform/product delivery team and is responsible for the overall design of solutions and aligning customer/business requirements to systems/technical requirements using best practices, design patterns and existing assets.
What you’ll do:
As a Principal Web Platform Architect you are responsible for the design and architecture guidance across Schwab's suite of web platform solutions and Web API interfaces. You'll work closely with other technologists to define the web strategy for the firm. You'll be a part of Schwab's Application Architecture team: A group of thought leaders responsible for Technology strategy (Mobile, Web, Data, Cloud, etc.). Other duties include: Developing Macro architectures (conceptual view), Technology Blueprints (3-5 year view), leading architecture forums, publishing technology strategies and presenting to technology leaders and business executives, providing thought leadership around technical solutions, and collaborating with other technologists on creating cross-domain solutions.
The Web Platform Architect works as team member alongside the Product Leads, Technical Leads and other supporting team members to deliver a complete solution. This role entails hands-on experience in cloud architectures (SaaS, PaaS and IaaS) and requires deep interest and experience in broad software platforms (information architecture, information flow, appropriate modularization and loose coupling). This role will have direct impact on the direction of the company, our customers and the industry.

Ability to innovate and lead explorations into new technologies and strategies.
Experience in developing the architecture of large-scale web applications (e.g. leveraging CDNs, security at scale, and optimizing for large user-base)
Experience with document management (CMS) and web analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, WebTrends)
Ability to evaluate new technologies, stay current with a broad range of industry trends
Knowledge of the web technology space: languages, frameworks, techniques, industry trends
Ability to architect the future state and the path to get there, accounting for near-term product deliverables
Deep knowledge of API (REST, SOAP), API Management and building scalable and high performance Web APIs.
Deep knowledge in .NET Web based technologies with strong .Net and Java backend knowledge
Deep understanding of Database, Middleware, Security, Performance tuning of web domains
Deep knowledge of one or more languages: Java (Spring, JSP, JAXB) or C# (WPF, WCF)
Deep knowledge and experience with server side .NET or Java.
Ability (and preference) to work in an Agile environment.
Ability to influence and effect changes that have broad and long term impact on the firm.
Ability to develop community of practices to facilitate discussions with technical team on platform-wide considerations, driving improvement and efficiencies, and providing leadership.
A software engineering background.
Ability to work with engineers and executives.
Strong presentation and communication skills.
