Role Value Proposition:

MetLife Investment Management (“MIM”), the institutional asset management business of MetLife, Inc., is seeking a credit analyst at Director level to join our London corporate private placement team for a fixed term of 6 to 9 months.

The primary function of the role is to source, analyse, and negotiate Corporate Private Placement debt investments across several industries. MIM offers the successful candidate an excellent environment in which to deploy their fundamental credit skills and to assume a leading role within the team.

This position would suit a highly motivated and analytical individual with at least 10 to 15 years of credit experience who is able to work independently and make an immediate impact.

Day to day responsibilities include to underwrite and make investment recommendations for corporate private debt investment opportunities (primarily investment grade but also some below investment grade) and management of existing portfolio names. The workload can be challenging; therefore, candidates need to be calm under pressure, demonstrate attention to detail, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking credit assessments of investment proposals, including review of research material and financial statements, and engaging with issuers’ senior management.

  • Preparation of credit committee memos and assignment of internal ratings.

  • Review and negotiation of legal documentation in conjunction with internal and external counsel.

  • Assessment of pricing on offered transactions on a relative value basis.

  • Assuming a guiding and leading credit analyst role for the team

  • Liaising with bankers and advisors to facilitate deal flow.

  • Conduct due diligence meetings with issuer companies.

  • Ongoing credit review of existing investments maintaining dialogue with issuers

  • Work closely with the client portfolio management team to address credit questions and requests from clients.

  • Identifying opportunities for potential bilateral, direct investments and marketing to these companies.

  • Building effective internal working relationships and developing contacts with external market participants.

  • Facilitating and processing amendments, waivers and other requested documentation changes.

Essential Business Experience

Required:

  • At least 10 to 15 years of related work experience.

  • Strong teamwork-driven attitude and a proven ability to provide leadership to junior colleagues

  • Ability to develop strong commercial relationships with CFO’s and Treasurers of issuers.

  • Willingness to travel across Europe.

Essential Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Strong academic background, with a minimum 2:1 (or equivalent) from a leading university. CFA Charterholder preferred.

  • Very good written & oral communication skills.

  • Strong accounting and financial analysis skills.

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively and under tight working deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in a main continental European language an advantage.
