Oracle Grid Infrastructure is portable cluster software that allows clustering of independent servers so that they cooperate as a single system. Oracle Clusterware also acts as the foundation to run the flagship Oracle RAC Database. Oracle RAC product is at the core of the enterprise grid software such as in the Database machine part of the Exadata family. RAC technology enables the Oracle Database to achieve its highest levels of availability and scalability along with extreme performance. Many of our customers' largest mission-critical online transaction processing (OLTP) systems and data warehouses run on Oracle RAC today.

Managing lifecycle operations on the Oracle RAC Database and Oracle Grid Infrastructure is perhaps one of the most complicated operations, given the dynamic nature of the runtime environment for an Oracle RAC database. Configurations vary across various deployments, major and minor versions vary across targets, patch levels vary, and in addition to these, applications are diverse in nature, with various kinds of jobs and sessions load that also vary over time. Managing patching and upgrades under these conditions without interruptions to end customers is a complex task.

Beyond the complexities of managing a single target as above, the Cloud involves handling an entire fleet of targets comprising of Oracle Grid Infrastructure and Oracle RAC Databases. Fleet handling capability at a large scale represents another layer of complexity beyond the complexities of handling individual targets. Performance, robustness, rollback, resumability, recovery, concise reporting, simplified operator interfaces are essential aspects of handling a Fleet. A few operators must be able to handle an entire fleet of targets.

To meet the above requirements and to take it even beyond, we have built the Fleet Patching and Provisioning(FPP) product, which offers fully-automated end-to-end lifecycle operations across the entire fleet with full capabilities to resume after failures, rollback/revert after failures, customization, parallelization and robustness.

In order to expand the adoption of OCI among Oracle's customer base, there is a need to make Migrations of Oracle Database Simple, Automatic, Fault-Tolerant, Fleet Scale capability, etc. This will facilitate mass migrations of databases in customers' datacenter to the OCI cloud environments such as ExaCS, ExaCC, DBaaS, Bare-Metal, offering various migration mechanisms such Physical and Logical migrations, and providing flexibility of performing Online or Offline migrations, etc. We are building a powerful tool Zero Downtime Migration(ZDM) that makes these capabilities available to the customer. We are also building the ZDM Cloud Service(ZDMCS) on the OCI, which is a Native OCI Service fully integrated with the various internal services offered by the OCI such as Identity, Logging, Metering, VCN, etc. The development work involves building this Cloud Service from the ground up.

This is a challenging fast-paced work environment in the Oracle Cloud. We are integrated with various Cloud technologies, and as we move forwarded, the demand to make operations smoother, simpler, faster, reliable and robust is always present. We have been awarded US Patents in our teams, and there is scope for plenty of development, come up with innovative ideas and lead the industry in providing top-rated solutions for the challenges in the Cloud.

Working with a world class team, as a Senior DEVOPS engineer, you will help automate and streamline our processes, build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring and operations and troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, test and production environments.

You will also be asked to provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products/services/processes, frequently operating at the leading edge of technology as well as mentoring engineers in the DEVOPS team. Part of the charter will also entail recommending and justifying major changes to existing products/services/processes.

Desired Skills/Experience

• 6+ years’ experience developing large scale, highly available distributed system in Linux/Unix environment.

• Must be a motivated, team-player with the ability to work cross functionally with a “can-do” and “do-it-right” attitude, a self-starter, and constantly thinking of ways to improve the work.

• Good understanding of Windows development, services/Registry/Batch scripts

• Should have experience in development, deployment and debugging of solutions using Java, Perl, SQL, REST, Docker containers, Apache - Tomcat

• Good understanding and experience in Oracle Database Technologies like dataguard, Goldengate is a plus

• Knowledge of networking and software defined networking in cloud environments

• Experience of continuous integration with automated deployment and testing, i.e. AGILE.

• Knowledge of HA and Load balancing using Apache-httpd is desirable.

• Experience in cloud programming Micro-services and cloud infrastructures is desirable.

• Experience in Oracle Database and Berkley Database is a plus

• Familiarity with Ant, shell script is good to have.

• Knowledge of best practices and DEVOPS methodologies in an always-up, always-available service.

• Ability to document and articulate complex architectures to non-technical audiences

• Ability to work in an extremely fast paced and challenging environment

• Excellent command of written and spoken English

• BE/BTech or ME/MTech in computer science or equivalent\

Responsibilities

The Autonomous Database Team is responsible for building the cloud service framework powering various Oracle Autonomous Database cloud services including Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP). The framework automates deployment, scaling and management of databases in the cloud. It is built on top of Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Layer.
