As Director of MLH Annuities, this person is responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting for the annuity line of business within MetLife Holdings segment, including fixed and variable deferred annuities and payout annuities withing the MLH segment. This position will also serve as the controller for MetLife Investors Distribution Company (MLIDC). As MLIDC Controller, this person is accountable for all aspects of the accounting and reporting under GAAP as well as all registered broker-dealer related filings.

This position reports to VP MLH Controller and manages a team of three. Core responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial statement information for MLH Annuities. including, but not limited to, SEC Filings and Quarterly Financial Supplement as well as US Statutory and/or US GAAP Accounting. Oversight of controls, SOX compliance, and accurate/timely monthly and quarterly financial closes.

  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial statement information for MLIDC. including, but not limited to, quarterly financial statement and quarterly FOCUS filings.

  • Managing a team of three associates responsible for the completion of monthly/quarterly close deliverables and filings across all bases of accounting; and the development of accounting playbooks to support any initiatives for this complex sub-segment. The position partners with Internal Audit and Deloitte audit teams for scoping, planning and audit issues and related remediation.

  • Ensuring the implementation and compliance with MetLife accounting policies and procedures across all products within MLH Annuities.

  • The overall implementation and maintenance all financial controls within the business, identifying and recommending potential operational efficiencies and improvements to working practices and procedures over preparation and review of financial information.

  • In addition to regular monthly/quarterly close deliverables, this role focuses on supporting various ongoing external re-disking and internal restructuring initiatives following the 2023 Global Atlantic reinsurance transaction, impacting the accounting, external and management reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timely reporting and analysis for MLH Annuities and completion of all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting related to MLH Annuities for US GAAP/SEC reporting within the prescribed time frames.

  • Ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timely reporting and analysis for MLIDC and completion of all required monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting related to the broker-dealer and the associated filings within the prescribed time frames.

  • Working with the team associate and partners to get up to speed of the broker-dealer reporting and filing requirements. Obtain the accreditation if necessary. Ensuring that a robust financial control framework with respect to MLH Annuities is maintained to ensure that internal controls are in place to prevent and/or detect any inconsistencies in financial statements, as well as proper segregation of duties and compliance with MetLife accounting and internal control policies and best practices.

  • Escalation of matters that should be brought to the attention of the MLH Controller and CFO and/or the business, including, but not limited to deviations from policy, accounting issues, and suspected fraudulent activity.

  • Oversight and monitoring of balance sheet and transactional reconciliation processes, ensuring the implementation of robust controls within the company.

  • Partnering with MLH CFO’s team, Actuarial & other functional leads to develop framework for proactive risk assessment and support of local, regional, and global initiatives or projects.

  • Managing and developing staffing to effectively accomplish the team’s goals and objectives, with the goal to achieve best practices and optimal efficiency.

  • Ensuring financial controls, audits, and satisfactory operation of all MLH Annuities and MLIDC financial systems and procedures.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

  • At least 10 years of experience in an accounting or finance function

  • Proven effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good working knowledge of US GAAP and US STAT accounting and reporting standards, including long-duration insurance accounting

  • Able to prioritize, organize and handle multiple tasks & challenges in assuming full accountabilities for all aspects of the MLH Annuities accounting function and the MLIDC accounting function.

  • Ability to partner closely with the business, legal, operations, actuarial and other finance functions in leading and guiding the end-to-end management of all RIS accounting and reporting matters, including strong documentation and review of internal controls and accounting and reporting alternatives and decisions.

  • Strong executive presentation skills – ability to explain and summarize complex financial concepts in concise, accurate and practical terms to senior finance and business stakeholders.

  • Ability to analyze and describe to key stakeholders the economic as well as accounting, reporting, and internal control implications and associated cost/benefits of key transactions and business events.

  • Strong internal control focus, linking business events beginning with operations, through actuarial valuation, and ultimately into the financial statements and related disclosures.

Preferred:

  • Broker-Dealer accounting and reporting experience preferred, but not required.

  • C.P.A. preferred, but not required.

The wage range for applicants for this position is $96000 to $143500. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.

The salary range for applicants for this position is $96,000 - $161,800.
