This is a full-time on-site role for a Tool & Die Maker in Chicago, IL (60633). The Tool & Die Maker will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks, repair, and maintenance associated with designing, building, and repairing tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures. They will collaborate with engineers and machine operators to ensure the quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process. The Tool & Die Maker will also participate in root cause analysis, development, and process improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Experience in tool and die making, including designing, building, and repairing tools
  • Experience working in the automotive stamping industry on medium to large transfer dies is desired
  • Proficiency in operating machine tools and utilizing precision measuring instruments
  • Perform die repairs at the press and in the tool room
  • Complete Preventative Maintenance activities on the dies
  • Weld a variety of materials used in maintenance and the tool room
  • Repair and maintain nitrogen pressure systems used in the dies
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical/pneumatic systems used in the dies
  • Operation of the overhead crane to move and stage dies
  • Machining of materials associated with repairs and maintenance of the dies

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge/experience related to draw dies and transfer die processes
  • Welding experience and the ability to operate welding, plasma cutting, and oxy-acetylene equipment (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW)
  • Knowledge of various materials and their properties
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, root cause analysis
  • Attention to detail and precision in work along with time management skills
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays, when workloads exceed normal levels
  • A state-issued journeymans card or a minimum of (2) years of verifiable experience working on metal stamping dies is preferred (but not required)
