Our Opportunity:

Join a fast paced and dynamic distributed technology development team supporting Schwab's Enterprise Security Master (ESM) platform built on a vendor supplied product from GoldenSource. ESM is an emerging platform and will continue to be a vital component of Schwab's modernization. We have customized the platform to enhance performance and delivery with both security and pricing objects, caching of data, message publication and inquiry and update services insuring we are using optimal technical capabilities.

Note: For clarification, the GoldenSource Enterprise Security Master is the firm’s system of record for Financial Securities, covering all instruments and asset classes including, Equities, Fixed Income, Options and Mutual Funds. It is not related to Information Security.

This team support Schwab’s Enterprise Security Master platform. This is a highly visible and critical distributed platform (Oracle, Java, .Net) that will supply security descriptive data, rating, and end of day pricing data across all asset classes in support of business users and other applications.

What you’ll do:

This is a key role responsible for production and test environment availability across all DB instances, application maintenance deliverables and Data Governance support. The successful candidate can effectively prioritize and multi task as they handle a broad range of different technologies.

This role focuses on the application, but is not an Oracle DBA position that focuses underlying DB administration. However, an Oracle DBA background is helpful to have for this position.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist in monitoring, alerting, performance tuning and diagnosing issues for key databases and environments

  • Diagnose database server reliability and performance issues

  • Tuning SQL queries to improve performance

  • Using tools to find the most frequently run queries and other performance issues (AWR, OEM, AppDynamics, Zabbix)

  • Ensure that new database code meets Schwab standards for readability, reliability and performance

  • Design indexes for existing applications

  • Advise developers on the most efficient database designs (tables, datatypes, stored procedures, functions, etc)

  • Review, deploy and test scripts/code

  • Respond to database related alerts and escalations and work to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems

  • Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards, and products as required.

  • Support Data Governance – know your data

  • Support the application Data Warehous

What you have:

  • Bachelor degree Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline

  • 8+ years overall IT experience

  • 6+ years Oracle DBA experience, including the following:Experience with Oracle 11g (12c a plus) Grid/ASM, RAC, Compression, partitioning, Data Guard and high availability techniques.

  • Solid understanding of database High Availability. Emphasis on minimal or zero down time.

  • Understanding of Oracle Patch management and upgrades

  • Proficient use of OEM (preferred 12C version)

  • Diagnostics , tuning and configuration management expertise

  • Familiarity with reading explain plans

  • 6+ years development experience in Perl, Shell scripts, Unix and Oracle

  • Proficient AIX and LINUX skills

  • Expert in SQL and at a minimum intermediate PLSQL

  • Familiar with histograms, indexes, and bind variables

  • Familiar with ASH - Active Session History

  • Data Governance tools knowledge: Collibra, EDQ, IGC

Preferred Skills:

  • Database administration knowledge

  • Distributed development knowledge

  • Talend experience
