Amazon Accounting Manager, Foreign Exchange (FX) Accounting in Arlington, Virginia

Description

The Foreign Exchange (FX) Accounting team is responsible for global FX results and provides FX guidance for new business and system launches with FX implications. FX accounting continues to grow in complexity due to the expanding number of countries in which Amazon operates. With Amazon operating in over 80 countries and dealing with approximately 600 currency pairs, the FX team works with diverse range of FX matters, exposures, and impacted systems.

The FX accounting team is looking for an Accounting Manager to guide cross-functional business stakeholders on FX matters. The ideal candidate will thrive in a complex, high-growth environment, collaborating with teams such as accounting, Treasury, Tax, technology, and Corporate Reporting System to provide FX guidance on projects involving FX implications. This person will serve as the subject matter expert to provide FX guidance and work with various accounting business teams (AWS, digital, store, payments, advertising, international accounting team, etc.) to understand each business initiative, assess FX implications, and then provide FX requirements to avoid creating future technical debt. Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial, as well as the ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope business requirements, and prioritize.

Key job responsibilities

• Work independently to become a subject matter expert, providing FX requirement and guidance to accounting and technology team

• Develop FX accounting requirements to operationalize complex FX accounting concepts.

• Ability to perform GAAP research to assess FX accounting implications.

• Articulate and provide clarification on FX accounting requirements to non-accounting business stakeholders

• Escalate risks and issues to leadership when necessary

• Drive continuous process improvement collaborating with business stakeholders

• Develop partnerships between cross functional stakeholders.

• Support month-end close and financial reporting processes as required.

• Research and coordinate with the technical accounting team, concluding and memorializing accounting position papers

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA

  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency

  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification

  • Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients

  • Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $179,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
