Description:

This position will work on new product development (NPD) projects for both new and existing products. The role of a Product Development Engineer will assist in the engineering efforts on NPD projects from conception through production launch, while following Newell’s Product Development Process. This position will require the ability to work effectively with other disciplines including Marketing, Industrial Design, Softgoods, Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain. Some travel may be required.

General Responsibilities:

· Develop innovative products that meet customer expectations, functional, quality and financial requirements, and industry and government compliance standards.

· Apply design for safety, manufacturability and other best practices

· Create comprehensive technical reports and product specifications.

· Identify opportunities to revise and improve product design or product performance and implement these improvements to our product lines

· Participate on cross functional teams to identify and resolve complex technical issues, implement large-scale product or process improvements, or major cost reductions.

· Draft, review and approve ECN spec changes.

· Create test plans in cooperation with our lab and/or outside labs that confirm the design goals. Collaborate with operations to establish qualification and QC manufacturing criteria.

· Support multiple product development projects using a Stage/Gate process with a focus on defining the timeline and key milestones. Ensure deliverables are executed on time, to cost and to quality specification.

· Assess and optimize existing products for application, field performance, or manufacturing improvements, and develop line extensions.

· Monitor and benchmark competitive products and identify design alternatives.

· Oversee/generate comprehensive DFMEA documents, Engineering Product Specifications, Quality and Audit Plans and Engineering drawings.

· Complete technical reviews of product complaints and provide technical support to resolve these issues.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

· 2-5 years of product development or product design engineering experience.

· Demonstrates some proficiency in CAD (Creo preferred)

· Demonstrates knowledge of problem-solving techniques and methodologies

· Demonstrates basic understanding of applicable manufacturing processing in injection molding, metal forming and metal tubing.

· Demonstrates strong interpersonal and project management skills

· Demonstrates excellent communication skills-verbal and written

· Demonstrates ability to perform in a team environment

Additional Qualifications

· Knowledge of manufacturing methods for plastic injection mold design and tube/wire/sheet metal bending is a plus

· Knowledge of softgoods assembly to hardgoods is a plus

· Knowledge of electronics and how to integrate them into a design is a plus

· Knowledge of programming (firmware, software, AI) is a plus
