Quality Engineer Senior Staff thrive in a leading-edge work culture while developing products that help Schwab customers learn, explore and make life-impacting moves on their paths to achieving their goals. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong problem solving skills who can contribute in a highly collaborative culture and Agile team environment. The ability to deliver innovative, low cost, reliable solutions is key to success in this role. Our Quality Engineer Senior Staff are responsible for test estimates, test strategies, test plans and scripts, functional and regression testing for numerous applications.
What you’ll do:
•Perform user story and overall system verification in an Agile development environment.
•Perform exploratory testing.
•Provide the tester perspective when writing Behavior Driven Development (BDD) story specifications.
•Assists team members with writing automated tests.
•Implement test practices, standards and processes, troubleshoot test issues, record test results, track and prioritize defects, participate in product readiness and release decisions.
•Make sure the automation is constantly running and being analyzed, reporting on failure promptly.
•Be effective in participating at program, project and product related levels.
•Participate in technical governance and help negotiate overall product quality standards with development and business teams.
•Work cross-organizationally both within Schwab and with external vendors, both on and offshore to define environment requirements, identify QA-related tools, develop and execute QA process and testing best practices.
What you have:
•8+ years’ experience in Software Quality Assurance, focused on automation.
•5+ years’ hands on experience in development, execution and maintenance of automated tests; preferably those developed using test-first techniques.
•5+ years’ experience testing RESTful services using test-first techniques such as Behavioral Driven Development (BDD) and/or Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD).
•2+ years’ experience developing in an Agile environment; preferably Scrum.
•Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field OR related practical experience.
•Thorough understanding of testing practices (black box testing, risk based testing, system testing, regression testing, exploratory testing, performance testing, etc.).
•Hands on coding experience in Ruby, Java, .NET, C# or any other object oriented language.
•Strong experience with modern tools for logging bugs and managing test cases (ex. JIRA/MTM, Zephyr/HPQ).
•Gherkin languages like Cucumber, Jbehave, and Specflow.
•Understanding of continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment (CD).
•Be able to provide the tester perspective when writing BDD story specifications.
•Expertise in writing business focused BDD specifications.
•Understands and applies good software engineering practices necessary to keep the cost of change of tests low
•Comfortable using OSS tools for testing such as Cucumber, WireMock, Gatling.
•Proven ability of working and leading multiple projects and releases, balancing time and effort for successful delivery.
•Proven experience driving innovative testing solutions within a complex, enterprise platform.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Must be a critical thinker and solutions-oriented.
•Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
•Must be able to quickly grasp complex concepts and learn new technologies.
•Ability to work independently and to effectively interact and collaborate with all types of stakeholders, both technical and business, peers and leaders.
•Detailed oriented self-starter.
•Personality that engages peers and promotes collaborative teamwork.
•Self-starter who can grasp difficult concepts and large architectures quickly.
•Able to learn and apply new knowledge quickly.
•Comfort with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment.
•Experience working with distributed teams.
•Certified Scrum Developer
•Experience with 1 or more scaled Agile frameworks (SAFe, LeSS, DAD, Nexus)
•Experience with eXtreme Programming (XP) practices
•Lean Agile development concepts
•Experience using JIRA, Zephyr, Cucumber, GIT and Bamboo
•Experience working in a highly regulated environment
•Experience working in a financial services organization
