Qualifications

OCI Systems/Computer Engineer

An Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Systems Engineer plays a key role in designing, implementing, and managing the systems infrastructure within the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) environment. They are responsible for ensuring the availability, scalability, and performance of the systems that support various applications and services.

The job responsibilities include:

  • Systems Design and Architecture: Designing and architecting the systems infrastructure within OCI, including physical servers, virtual machines (VMs), and operating systems. They collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs, recommend appropriate infrastructure configurations, and ensure system stability and performance.

  • Systems Implementation and Configuration: Deploying and configuring the systems infrastructure within OCI, including provisioning and managing servers, storage, and networking resources. They ensure proper configuration of VMs, storage volumes, network connectivity, and system security controls.

  • System Monitoring and Management: Monitoring the health, performance, and availability of the systems infrastructure within OCI. They use monitoring tools and processes to proactively identify and resolve performance-related issues, troubleshoot system errors, and optimize system resource utilization. System Automation and Orchestration:

  • Developing and implementing automation scripts and tools to streamline system management processes. They automate routine tasks, manage system configurations, and ensure consistency and efficiency in managing the systems infrastructure.

  • Capacity Planning and Optimization: Planning and optimizing system capacities to meet current and future demands. They monitor resource utilization, analyze trends, and work closely with stakeholders to identify potential capacity constraints and recommend appropriate scaling strategies.

  • System Security and Compliance: Implementing security controls and practices to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the systems infrastructure. They collaborate with security teams to implement access controls, patch management, and system hardening measures. They also ensure system configurations comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.

  • Incident and Problem Management: Managing system-related incidents and problems according to established frameworks and service level agreements. They prioritize and resolve incidents, investigate root causes of problems, and implement solutions to prevent recurrence. They also coordinate with technical teams and vendors for problem resolution and system enhancements.

  • Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including application developers, network engineers, and database administrators, to ensure effective integration and performance of the systems infrastructure. They provide technical guidance and support in system-related initiatives and projects. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, system diagrams, operational procedures, and best practices. They contribute to the knowledge base, provide training and support to technical teams and end-users, and participate in knowledge sharing sessions.

To excel in this role, an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Systems Engineer should have strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with systems administration, virtualization, cloud infrastructure, and operating systems (such as Linux and Windows). They should be familiar with scripting languages (such as Python or Bash) for automation and have knowledge of system security practices and compliance requirements. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also important for collaborating with stakeholders and providing technical guidance and support. Obtaining relevant certifications like the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Foundations Associate or Professional Certification is beneficial.
