Nielsen Sr. Database Administrator in Bangalore, India

The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) will play a critical role on our data management and architect team responsible for designing, delivering, validating and supporting complex data solutions across the entire Nielsen Media Organization. The Sr. DBA will be working with Product, Application leaders, Infrastructure, and Cloud teams to architect and support our complex data solutions which will satisfy strategic, cost, security and operational aspects of Nielsen’s data management platform needs. The Sr. DBA will also work with vendors/consultants and external support required to manage costs, licenses, feature requests and new product introduction/validation POC's.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on database design, tuning options, and other potential issues

  • Establish the baseline for system performance and detect deviation, suggesting and executing improvements to slow running queries

  • Maximize performance through effective hardware purchases, server configuration changes, or index/query changes

  • Configure monitoring utilities for databases to keep false alarms to a minimum

  • Verify that SLA objectives for database server topology, configuration, and maintenance are met in design and execution

  • Fix database service outages as they occur, including after hours and weekends

  • Maintain all database instances across development, staging, and production environments, handling installations and configurations as needed

Requirements

  • 4 years of experience specific to Database Administration

  • Working knowledge of storage and server hardware required

  • PostgreSQL experience

  • Oracle Database experience

  • Understanding of production environments and capable of being on-call

  • Experience building and maintaining technical documentation

  • Experience tuning queries and RDBM’s to improve overall performance

  • Strong knowledge of relational database management systems
