If so, this Applied Scientist role with the Microsoft Maps team in Belgrade, Serbia may be a great fit for you!

The Applied Science Map Service team is an innovative engineering and applied science team working on state-of-the-art deep learning models, large language models and pioneering conversational map and direction search experiences.

The team builds solutions based on attention architectures, graph neural networks, learning-to-rank and other ML models to improve the search services and experiences by. Few areas of impact are: 1) scalable query understanding and annotation solutions; 2) matching, retrieval and ranking of map and direction search results; 3) attention and GNN approaches to ETA prediction in routing; etc.

Responsibilities

As an Applied Scientist on our team, you'll be responsible for and will engage in:

  • Experimentation, implementation and shipping of AI related solutions.

  • Identifying, understanding preprocessing data used in deriving user insights and training large scale models.

  • Development of state-of-the-art machine learning, deep learning algorithms and techniques leveraging the data (i.e. text, location map search data, and routing road network data) for analyzing and building, debugging and supporting world-class search and information retrieval products.

  • Prototyping, designing and development of fundamental technologies and driving the analysis and applied research to enable better search experiences for consumers and enterprise alike.

  • Working in a diverse geographically distributed team environment where collaboration and innovation are valued. You will have an opportunity for direct impact on design, functionality, performance, scalability, manageability, and supportability of products that use our deep learning technology.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas, simplify and formalize concepts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant internship or prior work experience, e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research, working with maps data.
