Job Description

The LEGO Group’s Global Strategic Tax & Customs (GSTC) team is looking for an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our business advisory team on a 12-month fixed term contract basis, supporting our Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) business across EMEA. This includes our LEGO Brand Retail stores and LEGO.com platform, as well as partnerships with third party LEGO-branded retail stores.

This is a rare and fantastic opportunity to be part of one of the world’s leading brands, working hand in hand with commercial stakeholders across the LEGO Group, providing hands on tax support across both indirect and direct tax issues.

And yes, you do get to play with LEGO® bricks!

Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position.

Core Responsibilities

This role requires a self-starter who can establish, maintain and grow relationships with stakeholders, and who has a passion for understanding how the LEGO Group’s business model works.

Across the EMEA region, this role is responsible for:

  • Proactive tax advisory support to our D2C business. We have developed extremely strong links with our commercial teams and earned our “seat at the table” - we seek to provide up front tax advice as and when projects develop and occur, such as new market entries, LEGO.com expansion and new retail initiatives. This will involve collaboration with other parts of the GSTC team as well as across the wider CFO Organisation and our Shared Service Centre

  • Support to our Model Production unit. The LEGO Group manufactures large scale LEGO® models to support retail sales and for D2C marketing purposes – you will provide hands on support particularly around IP creation and international movements of goods

  • Identification of potential tax risk. You will also work day-to-day to reduce and eliminate risk in accordance with our Tax Strategy statement

  • Monitoring / risk-assessment of legislative updates across the region. You will work with colleagues to determine the impact for the LEGO Group, and plan ahead to ensure compliance within a constantly evolving retail environment, particularly considering the digitalisation of the economy

As this role is business focused, it does not include tax compliance work (although you may be required to sense check/high level review a handful of key filings during a given year). It also does not include annual group reporting requirements.

Play your part in our team succeeding

The role is part of the Global Strategic Tax & Customs (GSTC) team, which is overall accountable for taxes across the organisation - including customs, indirect taxes & environmental taxes. The team has 6 sub-departments; Business Advisory, Tax Policy & Controversy, Tax Performance & Projects, Tax Planning & Structuring, Tax Governance and Tax Product Management.

Beside the GSTC team, the LEGO Group has a central Tax Process Design team (BPI) and three Tax Operation & Compliance teams which sit within the broader Business Service Operations (BSO) organisation.

This role sits within the Business Advisory part of GSTC, reporting to the Tax Director, EMEA who is based in London.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Significant experience in tax, preferably some of which spent in-house, as well as ideally time with a professional firm

  • Generalist experience – however if your career path has focused on one of indirect or direct tax, demonstrating an ability to work with the other discipline, and a keen commitment to upskill will be required

  • Outstanding communication and people skills, particularly in communicating complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals and other internal partners

  • Proven analytical and decision-making skills

  • SAP experience is a plus

Please note this position will require approx. 20% of travelling time
