Description

This is a semi-skilled level of routine cleaning work and utility maintenance work performed in and around the public buildings. Work involves the performance of manual labor and various tasks related to the cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of the public facilities. Assignments are performed in accordance with established procedures under general supervision. Specific instructions are received on new work assignments or special cleaning/maintenance problems. Work is normally subject to inspection upon completion for compliance with instructions.\ \

Examples of Duties

This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned.\ \

• Sweep, mop, wax, polish floors, wash windows, walls, woodwork, and venetian blinds and dust in offices, halls and storerooms
• Clean bathrooms and replenish towels and paper; empty wastebaskets; clean and maintain water fountains; change light bulbs, fuses and breakers
• Cut and water landscape plantings, shovel snow, sweep walks, spread salt on sidewalks around public facilities
• Set up room for public meetings, including set up and arrangement of chairs and tables, turn on lights and clean rooms after meetings
• Perform general maintenance, simple carpentry, mechanical and painting of public facilities premises and lots as required
• Gather recycle paper daily as directed and remove to central location for pick up; keep garage clean and free from debris and safety hazards
• Adjust heating and conditioning controls; report on building facility or equipment needing repairs
• Pick up and deliver mail; move books and furniture as required; maintenance of flag and flagpole
