Boston University SENIOR RESEARCH COMPUTING APPLICATIONS & DATA SPECIALIST, Information Services & Technology, Research Computing in BOSTON, Massachusetts

As a Boston University Research Computing Applications team member, engage researchers as partners to co-create and co-learn research activities and relevant advanced computing capabilities to facilitate and transform collaborative and interdisciplinary research. This position will work directly with faculty, staff, and graduate students of the BU Faculty of Data Sciences, College of Engineering, Computer Science Department, and related communities on complex projects that require advanced knowledge of Machine/Deep Learning algorithms and frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide necessary training and consulting to support efficient utilization of Boston University's High-Performance Computing resources.

  • Install, document, and validate existing researcher-facing software packages.

  • Provide outreach and training to the university research community.

  • Collaborate with regional and national research computing peers on the fields landscape and best practices.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple programming languages, particularly Python, C or C++, machine learning packages (PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc.)and strong competencies in algorithms and numerical analysis.

  • Proven understanding and professional experience applying machine learning/deep learning concepts and techniques such as random forest, support vector machines, RNNs, CNNs, LSTM, etc.

  • GPU programming experience.

  • Ability to quickly learn new programming languages and tools.

  • Strong analytical skills required with an ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, and the ability to work well both independently as well as in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The following Qualifications are preferred, if you meet some, but not all, you are still encouraged to apply; we value employees with a willingness to learn.

  • Familiarity with container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, Singularity/Apptainer, etc.)is desirable.

  • Experience in utilizing cloud services for HPC and Research Computing is highly desirable.

  • Experience utilizing and scripting for Linux HPC clusters highly desired.
