Salary:The starting salary for this position is $5,675 per month. While the entire salary range is listed, new hires are appointed at $5,675/month.

Description of Job

This position provides entry-level marketable job skills to incarcerated students by delivering career and technical instruction on Machining and Fabrication coursework and performance based assessments within an adult educational correctional system/facility. Instruction is in accordance with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and/or the Colorado State Licensing Board (if applicable).

Job Duties Include:

  • Teaches and mentors incarcerated students individually or in large and small group classrooms promoting occupational, academic and transitional performance skills;

  • Determines educational needs of incarcerated students to develop short and long term goals;

  • Plans course content and develops methods of instruction;

  • Develops and implements competency-based teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials;

  • Provides hands-on training to teach and demonstrate skills, techniques, methods and procedures;

  • Lectures on Machining and Fabrication theories, concepts, principles, and terminology;

  • Selects and administers appropriate oral, written and/or performance assessments to incarcerated students in order to measures progress, course completion requirements, and to evaluate training/testing effectiveness;

  • Ensures security, supervision and monitoring of incarcerated students, the storage and inventory of tools, equipment, keys and hazardous material in accordance with CDOC regulations;

  • Ensures tools and equipment are in proper working condition;

  • Prepares reports and maintains records such as incarcerated student grades, attendance rosters, and training activity details;

  • Observes and evaluates incarcerated student's work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement;

  • Documents incarcerated student's vocational achievements, competencies and contact hours towards completion of certification requirements;

  • Actively contributes to the *safety and security of the facility through effective inmate management and promoting conflict resolution and solutions;

  • Participates in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast

of developments in the field, and integrates relevant information into training programs;

  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with fellow teachers in a cooperative effort to promote mutual and continued guidance and improvements;

  • Encourages and promotes critical thinking, self-discipline and self-motivation for the incarcerated student population in order to provide the skills necessary to reintegrate into society.

    *Safety & Security - position maintains safety and security by training inmates; and occasionally or in an emergent situation perform inmate counts, searches, escorts, movement control, and offender access to classrooms. Through conscientious observation and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations and the Code of Penal Discipline, the position promotes a safe and secure work environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Machining Technology or related field of study ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours of occupational experience in the machining and fabrication industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

NOTE:Relevant occupational experience includes any of the following: cutting, folding, forming, grinding, and/or shaping of metal or other material utilizing machine tools.

(ExperienceMUSTbe described in detail on your application to receive credit.)

There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours as referenced above.

OR

SUBSTITUTION #1:

In lieu of an Associate's Degree in Machining Technology or related field of study, the applicant must possess a current State of Colorado, national, industry, military, or union license/certification as appropriate for a machining and fabrication skill or related trade area ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours of occupational experience in the machining and fabrication industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

NOTE:Relevant occupational experience includes any of the following: cutting, folding, forming, grinding, and/or shaping of metal or other material utilizing machine tools.

(ExperienceMUSTbe described in detail on your application to receive credit.)

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.   • Successfully pass all modules of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, to include English reading comprehension , relevant competency assessments and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics;

  • Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics;

  • Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;

  • Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled take down;

  • Use arms, palms of hands, shins, and feet to deliver blows;

  • Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;

  • Swing a baton in a striking technique;

  • Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;

  • Get down on one or both knees and up again with multiple repetitions;

  • Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment;

  • Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security;

  • Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury;

  • Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently;

  • Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;

  • Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner;

  • Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders;

  • Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments;

  • Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings;

  • Willing and able to travel;

  • Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule;

  • TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire.

    Successful completion of a background investigation is required. Should applicant’s background reveal criminal charges, it shall be the responsibility of the applicant to provide the Department of Corrections with written/official disposition of any charges.

    The CDOC is committed to a work environment free from illegal drugs and alcohol. Employees (see exception below) may use marijuana in their personal time but are prohibited from working while under the influence of any substance, including marijuana. A drug test will be administered to all new employees; employees must successfully pass. Random drug screening will occur throughout employment.

    Exception: Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified employees are prohibited from the use of marijuana. Health care professionals must check their licensing requirements regarding marijuana use.
