Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM) is the asset management arm of the Charles Schwab Corporation, and has over $320 billion under management in mutual funds and ETFs. Products managed include a wide variety of active and indexed equity, fixed income, and asset allocation strategies, as well as money markets funds. CSIM uses a consistent and disciplined approach to investing across all our products and seeks to develop innovative new products to meet the core investing needs of our clients.
Build strong relationships with internal and external business partners and have the ability to effectively communicate sound rationale for risk assessments and mitigation recommendations in a poised, diplomatic, and articulate manner
Be proactive in analyzing and providing risk advisory solutions to solve complex business issues and be intellectually curious in understanding business drivers, systems and technologies
Be collaborative with a proven ability to effectively maneuver through the various levels in the organization, influence and engage business partners to keep up with CSIM’s growth
Demonstrate proven ability to execute on deliverables in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously across different functional groups

What you’ll do:
Perform operational risk management activities, including ensuring CSIM’s system of controls is working appropriately and any operating events or errors are remedied quickly, performing root cause analysis and ensuring appropriate steps are taken to mitigate any further risk to the organization
Partner with business owners on the management of day-to-day operational risk, provide recommendations to enhance business processes as appropriate, and assist with any cross-functional review and oversight activities as needed
Conduct and operational risk assessments and participate in the identification of possible people, process, technology changes within the immediate organization to improve the business
Liaise with the Schwab Corporate Operational Risk organization to ensure CSIM meets all of the corporate risk standards, which may include Key Risk Indicators, Key Risk Profiles, Risk Control Self Assessments, Scenario Analysis, and other corporate operational risk requirements as needed
Responsible for developing, enhancing, and providing appropriate training to mitigate and improve CSIM’s operational risk environment
Be a valuable and collaborative partner to other Policies and Controls teams on their oversight and risk management activities

What you have:
Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in Business or Finance preferred. Advanced degree such as MBA or professional designation such as CPA a plus.
The candidate should have 3+ years of experience in a risk, supervision/controls, compliance, or audit function. This experience should include: writing, maintaining, testing, auditing, and revising policies and procedures; and analyzing data and preparing solutions based on sound facts and findings
Additional experience working for an investment management company with an emphasis on controls, trading systems and operating guidelines is preferred
Self-starter with can-do attitude who can build relationships and influence effectively within a matrixed organization
Ability to work independently and proactively, with minimum guidance
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing based on risk/business needs
Effective organizational and time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated presentation skills
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization
Experience with risk management systems such as Open Pages, Archer, Paisley, etc. preferred
Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel and PowerPoint require
