PAYROLL SPECIALIST

 

Examples of Duties

Performs daily payroll operations for a large department. Deals sensitively and professionally with confidential materials. Manages workflow to ensures all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely. Executes time and attendance processing and interfaces with payroll. Assists with processing paperwork for new hires, terminations, and employee changes. Compares and validates work schedules, time clocks, and payroll entries. Conducts on-going time entry audits, makes adjustments, and documents deficiencies. Communicates with various levels of management. Makes decisions, solves problems, and analyzes data and situations. Utilizes organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills in order to produce accurate results and meet established deadlines. Develops ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed. Processes accurate and timely year-end reporting when necessary. Prepares internal payroll reports as needed. Understands proper taxation of employer paid benefits. Files documents into appropriate files in a timely manner and maintains payroll records. Processes manual checks. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma or GED is required. Four years of processing payroll, one of which must be for an organization with 200+ employees is required. Must have a working knowledge of payroll best practices and a strong knowledge of federal and state regulations. Must have strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel as well as a working knowledge of Kronos and ADP. Must have a strong work ethic as well as verbal and written skills. The following are preferred: A strong knowledge of scheduling software interfaces with Kronos and ADP; Professional payroll certification; On-going participation in continuing education seminars and educational sessions; and an Associate's degree in Math, Accounting, or related field from an accredited college or university.
