Description of Job

Are you a versatile team player and cross-functional contributor who’s skilled in network communications technologies (LAN/WAN/Network)? As our new Senior Network Administrator, you will support our Department of Corrections (DOC) (https://cdoc.colorado.gov/) in the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing networking equipment. You will provide your expertise on all service and product related matters, working across the department to set and communicate network standards. You will also formulate processes and guidelines that are mission-critical and in support of OIT's strategic plan, and implement the long-term goals and objectives to achieve product success.

Some of the important duties that you will perform include:

Performing capacity planning for local and wide area networks to ensure smooth growth and operation.

Monitoring system usage/growth over periods of time in order to implement additional resources to handle projected system requirements.

Performing network monitoring and maintenance to provide a reliable and stable network environment for department staff and hosted applications.

Overseeing the design, installation and configuration of network communications infrastructure including, but not limited to routers, switches, wireless access points, and wireless LAN controllers.

Providing technical support to end-users; includes troubleshooting, resolution and diagnosis of network, VoIP, video, and wireless communication issues within the network infrastructure.

Configuring, administering and deploying mission critical network, VoIP, video, and wireless technologies utilized in the network infrastructure.

Hybrid Workplace: An employee has a set schedule where they work a combination of days at a remote location and days in the State Workplace. The employee may have an assigned workspace or use options such as hoteling to reserve their in-office days.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While most salary offers are made within the posted range, occasionally an offer is made below or above the posted range based upon this salary analysis.

This is a skills-based job announcement. The required minimum qualifications and/or

education (if substituting for the proven experience, knowledge, and skills), are as follows:

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of four (4) years of professional work experience in information technology network operations and support in a managed service or medium to large size professional environment. Experience must include the following:

Technical knowledge of Layer 3 network switching and routing concepts and devices, IP addressing and subnetting, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VoIP understanding, and use of diagnostic tools such as Wireshark deciphering packets and ability to filter on captures.

Knowledge of:

Network protocols: TCP/IP, QoS/CoS, IPSec, SSL, SNMP, multicast, Netflow/NBAR, OSPF, BGP routing protocols.

VLANs, VLAN Trunking Protocol, Spanning Tree Protocol, and link aggregation and segmentation concepts and technologies.

Ability to create network diagrams, understand architectural drawings, develop project plans, and lead network installations or upgrade projects.

Experience with structured cable management, knowledge of Layer 1 concepts, technologies, media types and interfaces, and ability to use cable and wireless network testing tools.

Ability to create architectural design and technical road mapping for the data and voice network infrastructure and associated services.

Ability to design, implement, and manage ACLs, route maps, policy maps, and routing protocols on Cisco networking equipment.

Substitutions:

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.

Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.

If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

CCNP (Cisco Certified Networking Professional)

Project Management experience

Experience with Cisco Meraki network equipment configuring, installing, troubleshooting, and supporting switches, and MX appliances.

Python Scripting

Experience with Cisco Viptela SD-WAN

Conditions of Employment:

OIT candidates and employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work.

A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.

Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test.

This position may require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed.

This position may require on-call duties as needed by the position.

Supplemental Information

If this posting indicates “remote from anywhere in CO” in the title, periodic reporting to the primary state work location designated for the position is required. All remote work must be performed in Colorado.

While candidates from out of state will be considered for this role, the candidate selected for the position must relocate and reside in Colorado on the first day of their new position. A reasonable timeframe for relocation will be established on an individual basis, while considering business needs, and determining a start date.
