Union County College Educational Support Coordinator in Cranford, New Jersey

Union County College is a public comprehensive community college providing quality, affordable, accessible educational programs that serve the greater Union County region. It is the oldest of New Jerseys 19 Associate Degree Colleges, serving both career-minded and transfer-oriented students since 1933. The College enrolls almost 30,000 credit, non-credit and continuing education students and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Many programs lead to the Associate in Arts, Science and Applied Science degrees.

General Description:

The Educational Support Coordinator, under the direction of the Director of the Learning Centers, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Academic Learning Center ( ALC ) computer labs, Information Commons, and the Math Success Centers ( MSC ). The incumbent.develops and implements targeted tutoring programs for STEM students. Responsibilities include the development of content for traditional classrooms, student computer labs, the college’s portal, and the department’s LMS shell. In addition, the incumbent works with professional tutors, peer tutors, and faculty to ensure effective delivery of tutorial services. In collaboration with the Director of the Learning Centers, the incumbent develops and maintains services responsive to ALC student needs. Incumbent must travel among campuses as directed or as necessary to meet the needs of position. Flexible hours required.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

· Recruits, trains, and supervises staff of peer, paraprofessional, and professional tutors.

· Creates and maintains tutor schedules.

· Promotes tutoring services to students, faculty, and staff.

· Manages ALC and Information Commons local area network, departmental Access databases, and recordkeeping.

· Conducts regular tutor progress assessments to support tutors’ development.

· Trains students both individually and in the classroom environment and matches individual needs with appropriate tutors and resources.

· Collaborates with STEM faculty to align tutoring services with course content and address subject-specific challenges.

· Designs and maintains instruction manuals for software.

· Develops a comprehensive repository of specialized educational resources, study materials, and online tools to enhance tutoring sessions.

· Works closely with academic advisors to support students’ success.

· Troubleshoots hardware and software problems in the ALC and Information Commons areas in collaboration with IT.

· Provides support for programming or applications projects for the ALC and resolves end-user software problems as appropriate

· Ensures the cleanliness and good working order of equipment and other tools in the ALC .

· Remains cognizant of any changes in subject matter curriculum and coordinates ALC’S response to such changes.

· Learns new technologies to enhance tutoring services.

· Creates and maintains the ALC LMS shell.

· Organizes outreach events, workshops, and seminars to engage students in tutoring services and resources.

· Analyzes tutoring center data to assess the impact and success of tutoring programs and prepares reports as needed.

· Presents CRLA Training modules, UCC101 workshops, Learning Management System workshops, and Math and Physics special sessions to tutorial staff and students.

· Tutors in areas of expertise as needed.

· Assesses the effectiveness of tutoring resources and implements changes as necessary to meet the needs of students.

· Serves on College Governance committees, or College committees

· Attends college-wide, departmental and divisional meetings as requested.

· Participates in all commencement events.

· Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director, Academic Learning Centers.

Education Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference in Computer Science, Mathematics, or other STEM discipline.

Experience:

· Minimum of two years of teaching and/or tutoring experience. Experience must be both in person and utilizing computer-aided instruction.

· Knowledge of computer-aided instructions, basic computer applications, Microsoft Office Suite and web and mobile applications.

· Experience creating and maintaining LMS shells and supporting PC’s, laptops, and mobile devices.

· Experience in supervision and evaluation of student workers.

Competencies and Skills Required:

· Minimum of two years of teaching and/or tutoring experience. Experience must be both in person and utilizing computer-aided instruction.

· Knowledge of computer-aided instructions, basic computer applications, Microsoft Office Suite and web and mobile applications.

· Experience creating and maintaining LMS shells and supporting PC’s, laptops, and mobile devices.

· Experience in supervision and evaluation of student workers.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

· This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

· Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

· No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

· Some travel required.
