DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW: Caroline County Sheriffs Office

The Caroline County Sheriffs Office is a full-service law enforcement agency.

Caroline County consists of a total area of 326 square miles. Deputies are responsible to patrol over 470 miles of roadway. The Caroline County Sheriff's Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Caroline County Maryland. With various professional fields such as Patrol, Narcotics, Canine Unit, and the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), to name a few, the Caroline County Sheriff's Office has the skills, expertise, and professional staff to handle any situation that it may face.

DEFINITION: This is a Contractual position.

This is a

Maryland Certified

position performed on behalf of the Caroline County Sheriffs Office. An employee in this class, with general supervision from the designated Commander of the Support Services Division and/or the Criminal Investigation Division, serves legal process and court documents on residents of Caroline County and will also manage registration compliance for all sex offenders living and working in Caroline County.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  • Receives court/legal documents and other administrative papers from a clerical employee and the courts and establishes a route to follow for the day.
  • Serves documents on the designated recipients of court/legal process. Returns receipts to a clerical employee for file and/or dissemination.
  • Enter information pertaining to service of documents into the Sheriffs Office records management system.
  • Conduct initial registrations and re-registrations on all sex offenders claiming residency in Caroline County on or before their respective registration expiration dates.
  • Notify the Criminal Investigation Commander of any registered sex offender found to be in violation of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
  • May have to appear in court to testify regarding service of documents or any non-compliant sex offenders.
  • Must have basic knowledge of operating a computer.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited high school or be in possession of a General Education Development (G.E.D.) Certificate acceptable to the Maryland Department of Education,

and

one year work experience in a position dealing with the public.
