WSP USA RTMC Operator 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) Operator for our Fort Lauderdale, FL office. Be involved in projects with our Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 RTMC Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

The hourly rate for this position is $17.00 /hr

Your Impact

  • Responsible for actively monitoring, managing, and improving roadway operations along select FDOT-maintained freeways and major arterial roadways throughout the District

  • Responsible for utilizing various Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices (such as CCTV, roadway detection systems, and radio communication systems) to detect incidents, monitor traffic conditions, and collect travel-time data in real‐time in accordance to established policies/procedures

  • Document potential and confirmed incidents that impact traffic-flow and safety using software applications, including travel lane and road shoulder closures related to construction/maintenance activity

  • Responsible for dispatching roadside service patrol to assist stranded motorists as well as law enforcement in a timely and efficient manner

  • Ability to prioritize and perform real-time traffic management activities during crisis or other stressful situations

  • May provide support to County Signal Engineers as they implement signal timing changes to improve traffic flow and reduce motorist delay

  • Perform communication tasks consistent with the RTMCs high level of customer service expectations and training

  • Answer phone calls and provide information or assistance to motorists, FDOT staff, or other agencies on traffic and road conditions

  • Perform written documentation of activity and communication in a clear, concise, and complete manner

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Must successfully complete the Joint Task Force (JTF) Security Clearance Process, which includes fingerprinting

  • Ability to work alternate schedules (which may include overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays) and short-notice shift assignments when necessary

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a transportation dispatch or call center environment

  • Familiarity with freeway systems and arterial roadways in South Florida

  • Ability to work calmly and professionally in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Ability to interpret or understand geographic information portrayed on a map and map-based applications

  • Efficient and accurate data entry skills.
