Our Opportunity:

The Schwab Enterprise Architecture (EA) team is looking for a talented and driven Enterprise Architect to be part of the team to provide strategy and material contribution to the future state solution at Schwab. The EA is responsible for the governing the strategy in the enterprise's processes and systems. The team members lead the effort and thought leadership to develop, maintain, govern, and evolve the enterprise architecture at Schwab. This team establishes the enterprise wide strategy for the enterprise architecture, manages its development and governance, and facilitates the changes required to gain the maximum value for the business while minimizing disruptive impacts.

As a member of this team you will help run the technology review board and will be responsible for managing and optimizing EA’s technology governance processes. In addition to the primary area of technology product governance, you will also be responsible for areas of Application, Service, API and cloud services governance. You will ensure that the end to end process is optimized and frictionless for the end users in Schwab’s technology community.

What you’ll do:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead technology review board and related governance processes.

  • Improve user experience for the governance process through optimization, better co-ordination and automation.

  • Drive integration of architectural processes across business, data, application and technology product domains.

  • Manage exceptions to architectural standards at an enterprise level.

  • Optimize process through collaboration and partnership with various existing local and technology category governance boards.

  • Develop and communicate enterprise-wide policies, standards, guidelines and procedures.

  • Promote the EA process, outcomes and results to the organization and senior leadership.

  • Guide & mentor various teams in the organization to understand, apply standards to achieve full compliance.

  • Identify and build required enterprise artifacts & best practices based on needs and existing inventory.

  • Govern change management for existing standards and policies ensuring adoption of the ‘right balance’.

  • Work collaboratively with peer organizations to draft and refine proposed standards and policies/changes for review by senior management when necessary.

  • Develop assessment for executives, business leaders, and IT management to review the impact of proposed change to policies and guidelines along with recommendations.

  • Guide architecture work streams toward simplifying and automating standards management processes.

  • Create architecture governance strategies for large scale, high-impact, or high-cost technology solutions by collaborating with other enterprise architects.

What you have:

  • At least 10 years of experience working with business technology, preferably with the financial industry or other highly regulated industry

  • Hands on experience in building or optimizing technology governance functions in a large Enterprise Architecture practice

  • Experience in software architecture in leading or supporting development teams with keen understanding of developer’s concerns and needs

  • Broad experience in business systems, data, infrastructure, security, and compliance

  • Awareness of project management approaches and techniques

  • Broad hands on software development experience in all phases of the SDLC at various role

  • Experience in infrastructure, data and application architecture, and providing technical leadership to development teams on standards, best practices, using design patterns etc.

  • Experience managing standards & policies in a large enterprise with regulatory needs

  • Working knowledge designing and implementing regulatory technology solutions with focus on the capital planning

  • Working knowledge of financial systems deployed in large financial institutions

  • Strong customer focus and architecture management mindset

  • Experience with IT or business architecture principles, modeling, methods, and tools

  • Understanding of TOGAF or a similar enterprise architecture framework
