Overview and Essential Functions

The In-house Splicer II Fiber will perform tasks associated with the construction/upgrade of fiber systems. An In-house Splicer II Fiber is responsible for terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing fiber optic cables within the systems networks and their related equipment resulting in maximum operating efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of cable.

  • Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment.

  • Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.

  • Maintain equipment according to design specifications.

  • Install/repair fiber lines in trenches and/or pedestals using various hand tools.

  • Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation.

  • Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle.

  • Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete \"as-built maps\" for areas built and track daily production

  • Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.

  • Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed (potentially climb poles)

  • Field train and control/oversee the work of other Splicers when necessary.

  • Frequently work independently

  • Other splicing related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Who we are looking for…

  • CATV experience.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.

  • A good driving record is required.

  • Minimum two (2) years previous experience or training.

  • Must have previous experience spicing fiber optic and/or copper cable.

  • Must have knowledge of telecommunications network structure.

  • Must be a valid driver's license (CDL Class \"A\" preferred).

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to read and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams.

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends, if necessary.

  • Ability to operate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR and fusion splicing equipment.

    Pay range is commensurate with experience: $21.00/hour to $25.00/hour
