Our Opportunity:

The Technology Operational Solutions (TOS) group is looking for a senior level Systems Engineer to help build and maintain/operate critical systems and solutions that enable the monitoring and automation of/for many applications across the enterprise. These solutions enable Schwab business and technical teams to clearly understand the behavior and performance of their applications, thereby enabling these teams to identify problems quickly, automate actions, and improve their products

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement monitoring systems/solutions for Windows and Linux based systems and applications spanning all of Schwab's enterprise information technology systems;

  • Work closely with Senior Engineers and Architects to help manage monitoring tools including problem identification/resolution, performance analysis, configuration and change management, and documentation. Help provide forward-looking enhancements to enable these systems to operate more efficiently;

  • Document monitoring design and implementation processes (and delegate to others on the team);

  • Own the continual improvement of processes/solutions for customer service delivery or monitoring tool management;

  • Work closely with monitoring, automation, system, and application architects to research, provide input into and implement monitoring solutions/tools;

  • Train other technicians on monitoring design and implementation, and monitoring system management as needed;

  • Create reports and provide operational metrics on monitoring system health and performance.

What you have:

  • Excellent understanding and experience with the Unix/Linux operating systems (RedHat Enterprise Linux preferred) (3+ years);

  • Experience in a high-level programming language such as C#, C++, Java, or Python to build tools and/or applications (2+ years);

  • Excellent understanding of the Windows Server operating system (2003 to 2012) (2+ years);

  • Experience on an site reliability engineering (SRE) or formal software engineering team a plus;

  • Familiar with agile methodologies including Scrum and Kanban frameworks (Atlassian Jira experience a plus) ;

  • Fluent in one or more of the following Linux scripting languages/tools: Korn, Bash, awk, sed, grep, ssh (3+ years)

  • Experience in one or more of the following Windows scripting languages: Batch and/or PowerShell (2+ years)

  • Experience with enterprise level system management (thousands of systems spanning data centers) required;

  • Able to systematically analyze and break-down systems into smaller components in order to better understand functionality;

  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate complex ideas and concepts;

  • Strong ability to fully own, organize, and manage multiple projects at the same time.
