What you’ll do:

In this position the IT Infrastructure Architect will participate in the larger IA community but focus on Infrastructure Technologies that support Schwab enterprise services and applications. They will collaborate with application development teams and project managers to understand the infrastructure requirements and use cases of a portfolio of applications and design and lead deployment of these designs. Candidates must have an extensive and broad understanding of both Infrastructure and Application development disciplines; they should be comfortable collaborating on deep technology intense topics, analyzing economic efficiency, and planning execution of distributed and disparate delivery partners. The successful individual must be able to rapidly assimilate IT technology concepts and their application in the Charles Schwab context. This position will be deeply involved and a key focal in IT transformation initiatives, systems optimization projects and to provide direct influence on technology strategy and direction for the technology infrastructure service organization. This position will be expected to execute the duties of a Subject Matter Expert across all of Schwab enterprise IT for three major diciplines: Compute Platforms - including server hardware and hypervisors; Storage Platforms - block, file, object, and backup/recovery; and Operating Systems – Windows, Unix, Linux.

What you have:

  • Broad understanding of technology infrastructure diciplines and depth of understanding with many of the component technologies used in enterprise computing enviornments.

  • Extensive experience with the technology of IT Infrastructure Compute, OS and Storage Platforms including leading and developing strategy for the delivery, operations, and management of these systems.

  • Deep knowledge with server hardware, operating systems, hypervisors and storage technologies. Able to answer detailed technical questions but also able to describe approaches to traditional problems and approaches to solutions. Demonstrable experience developing resiliency aspects of infrastructure systems, their accompanying operational processes and disaster recovery techniques in general.

  • Ability to develop plans, strategies, and roadmaps for technology evolution and engagement in solving business challenges. Broad knowledge of technologies from many vendors the ability to compare and contrast these technologies and products and ability to discuss the capabilities and to compare these with alternative options. Ability to provide a compelling narrative as to the merits of a particular approach.

  • Strong and broad understanding of IT data storage systems, the tradeoffs of each type of system and the ability to compare and contract various technologies, protocols, their implementation and the benefits and risks related to technology, lifecyle, and how to build enterprise IT services from these technologies.

  • Experience and knowledge to speak to immediately adjacent technology expertise in peer language about integration. (e.g. Databases and Network)

  • Lack of a dogged attachment to a particular set of technologys or vendor’s products.

  • Ability to form opinions and positions detacttched from vendor rhetoric or from the prescription of previous experience.

  • Demonstrable experience in a lead role developing a platform to support cloud computing as well as understanding and experience with IaC, PaaS, and IaaS systems and tooling.

  • Deep knowledge of block, file and object storage technologies, products, and benefits and associated risks.

  • 10+ Years’ experience in designing and operating; compute, storage, network platforms, and operating systems and associated technologies.

  • Experience in developing IT Strategy roadmaps, financial analysis budgeting and planning.

  • Strong leadership abilities to work both within the technology organization and with external business partners and consumers to achieve and measure IT business objectives

  • Experience working with standard multi-tier platform architectures .NET, Java, DBMS, Mainframe and file based architectures.

  • Ability to leverage existing standard services and work with engineering teams to architect custom solutions as appropriate to meet business need.

  • Working knowledge of industry technology standards, compliance activities and experience working with audit and regulatory bodies useful.

  • Must have vendor management experience and ability to lead large multi business groups and vendors through extensive Proof of Concept exercises.

  • Strong collaboration skills working with peers across organizational units and mentoring junior team members.

  • Understanding and experience working with agile project methodologies.
