    Salary:

    This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $59,800. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

    Role Overview:

    The Transportation Safety Training Specialist develops and implements a variety of training courses for school bus drivers and school transportation employees. You will assess current training programs and make amendments to ensure that the Office of School Transportation guidelines are properly interpreted and incorporated while also responding to the needs of school bus drivers.

    This position requires you to:

  • Be 21 years or older.

  • Hold a Class B CDL with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements.

  • Be available to travel up to 60% of your work days each month. Mileage is reimbursed.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Consult with statewide staff on a variety of training matters.

  • Interpret and review training needs.

  • Develop training upon request.

  • Develop and present training for a variety of school-transportation-related topics.

  • Lead instruction for pre-service school bus driver training.

  • Assists with efforts to develop statewide web-based training solutions for school transportation training.

  • Serves as backup for the Support and Training Specialist.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resources, Training, or Transportation-related field OR five years of training experience.

  • Currently holds, or has held, at least a Class B CDL with P and S endorsements for a minimum of two years.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in training, preferably in school transportation or commercial vehicle operations.

  • Extensive knowledge of all related training source materials and references including federal and state laws governing school transportation.

  • Must be able to travel within the state up to 60% of each month.

  • Extensive knowledge of policies and methods for administering training programs.

  • Considerable knowledge of the Office of School Transportation policies and procedures.

  • Extensive knowledge of Office of School Transportation functions and the ability to incorporate and administer training programs adhering to the missions and goals of the agency.

  • Ability to establish and implement training program goals, priorities, and instructional design methodologies.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with officials, legislators, or the public with a significant impact on the anticipated work product.

  • Ability to take appropriate actions and respond on time.

  • Ability to establish a rapport with all levels of state employees.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
