As the Education and Curriculum Librarian serving as the liaison to all Siena College Education programs, the Assistant Librarian will play a crucial role in facilitating access to information resources, supporting research initiatives, and promoting information literacy within the Education community. Responsibilities will encompass collaborating with faculty, students, and staff to understand their information needs, providing tailored research assistance, and curating collections that align with the curriculum and research interests of a wide variety of Education offerings and degrees.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collection Development and Curriculum Integration: Collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources and services into the curriculum, ensuring alignment with academic goals and enhancing the learning experience. Manage a curriculum collection designed to support the Elementary Education degree.

  • Assessment: Implement and assess instructional programs and services, utilizing data-driven insights to continuously improve the effectiveness of library instruction and support services.

  • Technology Integration: Explore and implement innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning initiatives, including developing online tutorials, research guides, and other instructional materials.

  • Faculty Collaboration: Partner with faculty to design and deliver professional development opportunities for information literacy, educational technology, and library resources.

  • Information Literacy Instruction: Develop and deliver engaging information literacy instruction sessions in-person and virtually to enhance students' research skills and critical thinking abilities.

  • Research Support: Provide research assistance to students and faculty, fostering a research-rich environment that aligns with the institution's academic mission.

  • Faculty commitments: Serves on library and campus-wide committees, working groups, and task forces, and engages in professional development outside the library.

  • Annual Salary: $77,410.00

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • A demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in teams is required.

  • A Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) is required.

  • An ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • A demonstrated awareness of educational trends, diverse voices, and educational resources.

  • Experience with teaching information literacy curriculum.

  • Experience with curriculum materials and collections, including children's and youth-oriented literature, as well as manipulatives to support classroom work.

  • Additional educational background experience in education, i.e. reading/literacy, language learning, educational technology.

  • Experience with online learning platforms and/or creating digital tutorials, videos, and research guides.

  • Knowledge or experience teaching undergraduate through graduate level students.

  • Experience supporting current research practices, open access, research impact, data visualization, and digital scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in K-12 Education OR background experience in education or K-12 school libraries is strongly preferred.

  • An active membership in professional organizations is preferred
