POSITION DETAILS

The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks an experienced Director of Donor Relations for the office of University Advancement. CUNY is the nation’s leading urban public university serving more than 500,000 degree-seeking students. The University comprises of 25 institutions: 11 senior colleges, seven community colleges, William E. Macaulay Honors College at CUNY, CUNY Graduate Center, Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, CUNY School of Law, CUNY School of Professional Studies and CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. The office of University Advancement strives to develop new fundraising streams, forging relationships with corporate and philanthropic foundations, and private donors.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, the Director of Donor Relations partners with CUNY Colleges in developing strategies to encourage foundation and corporate support for their programs. The Director will also work with Advancement Staff, College Presidents, Provosts, Deans, Department Chair, Staff and Faculty in identifying and developing relationships with Donor Relations donors.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but will not be limited to following:

  • Conducts stewardship and cultivation activities to strengthen relationships with current and prospective donors;

  • Researches donors for Donor Relations opportunity; advises and provides Colleges with detailed research reports on individuals, corporations, foundations, and business in areas of interest;

  • Prepares proposals for multi-College approaches to Donor Relations;

  • Liaise with the College Presidents, staff, and faculty to assist with the Colleges comprehensive campaigns for Donor Relations;

  • Responds to specific Donor Relations-related requests from faculty and staff of the Colleges;

  • Builds donor and prospect profiles and manages information in database and spreadsheets;

  • Organizes and prepares briefings on prospective donors for Donor Relations purposes;

  • Implements policies and procedures that address a variety of issues that must be considered before accepting gifts, as well as procedures that ensure that gifts are put to work as donors intend in order to ensure good Donor Relations;

  • Handles donor recognition in various forms as well as donor events;

  • Supports giving to the University and support the CUNY mission by bringing in donors to provide funding;

  • Performs related projects as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement.

Note: Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Eight years of experience in Donor Relations, or related experience, preferably within an educational institution;

  • Demonstrated knowledge and mastery of tools used for Donor Relations;

  • Excellent interpersonal, managerial, and organizational skills;

  • Detailed-orientation, multi-tasking ability with excellent writing and oral communication skills;

  • Interest in working as a member of a team of development and marketing professionals;

  • Commitment to providing the highest level of support and assistance to the 25 Colleges of the City University of New York.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Develops and implements strategies to secure major gifts to a College or Unit.

  • Creates and implements thoughtful strategies to attract gifts from donors and prospects; works with management to establish, and meet, goals and targets

  • Builds relationships, seeking new donors through prospecting using a variety of sources, and maintaining ongoing relationships with existing donors, collaborating with College and University management

  • Ensures reporting requirements are completed in timely and accurate manner; utilizes automated systems for tracking and reporting

  • Adheres to established protocols such as the University's gift acceptance policy

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range is $124,656 - $129,310; commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
