HarperCollins Publishers Editorial Assistant - Harper Voyager/William Morrow in New York, New York

Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join the Harper Voyager/William Morrow team! The Editorial Assistant will provide administrative and editorial support to an Editorial Director and a Senior Editor specializing in fantasy and science fiction, but also working across a wide range of genres including horror, literary and book club fiction, romance, and mysteries.

This role is based in New York City and will require someone in commutable distance to come into the office as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Works with supervisors on the progress of book projects from acquisition to publicationand beyondbymanagingschedules, maintaining records, andacting as the in-house liaison between Editorial, other departments, and authors.

  • Prepares paperwork, including contract requests, profit and loss statements, title information sheets, jacket concepting memos, and manuscript transmittals.

  • Assists supervisors in the acquisitions process by reading and evaluating manuscripts and proposals, writing rejection letters, evaluating market competition and trends, and researching and developing ideas.

  • Collaborates with supervisors on drafting catalog and cover copy.

  • Provides administrative support by scheduling, managing mailings, alerting authors of price promotions, etc.

  • Works with the Editorial Director on organizing materials and reports pertaining to the Voyager imprint, as well as maintaining and coordinating between the U.S. and U.K. for co-publishing projects.

  • Assists in the day-to-day caretaking of a major literary estate, including housekeeping, reissuing titles, and new licensed projects.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent work experience

  • Genuine interest in commercial genre fiction, especially fantasy and science fiction

  • An interest in fandom, fanfiction, and social media where books and writing are discussed

  • Strong organizational skillsand attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

The salary for this position is $48,500. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.
