Job Description

Mission Statement

Core Responsibilities

  • Participate in reliability and production cost modeling of the Northeast electric system using licensed software tools to support the Company's strategic initiatives. The individual will need to consider various factors including environmental impacts, electricity market regulations, and local, state, and Federal policies in conducting such analyses.

  • The individual will also manage studies and analyses that pertain to electric resources and consider the environmental, financial, regulatory, and policy aspects.

  • Responsibilities also include: performing production cost simulations, system reliability modeling, economic analyses, and load flow analyses of the electric system; evaluating and analyzing existing and emerging electric resource options, such as generation, transmission, energy storage, energy efficiency and demand response programs to determine their impact on customer electricity costs and system reliability; developing spreadsheets, reports, regulatory filings and testimony; delivering presentations on electric resource planning issues; and representing the Company at meetings with the NYISO, New York State Public Service Commission, New York City governmental agencies, New York State Reliability Council and other external forums.

  • Perform other related task and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Master's Degree and 2 years of full-time related industry experience or

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of full-time related industry experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Must have strong computer skills particularly in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Required

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills are essential. Required

  • Must have the capability to perform financial, technical, and environmental impact analyses. Required

  • Proficient in developing comprehensive and analytical spreadsheet models in Excel. Required

  • Must be flexible to handle multiple projects, changing priorities, meet deadlines, exercise independent judgment, and render sound business decisions. Required

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with all levels of management, other departments, customers, consultants, and government agencies. Required

  • Must have an understanding of the current issues facing the electric industry, including knowledge of existing and upcoming state and federal regulatory initiatives, and working knowledge of wholesale capacity and energy markets. Required

  • Experience in one of the following areas: resource planning, transmission planning, operations planning, system operation, energy scheduling, or electric/gas/steam operations is desired. Preferred

  • Knowledge of Python or other programming languages is a plus. Preferred

  • Experience using resource adequacy and production cost modeling software such as GE MARS, GE MAPS or PROMOD is a plus. Preferred

  • Other preferred qualifications include knowledge of integrated resource planning techniques, environmental policies affecting the electric utility industry, and working knowledge of electric rates and tariffs. Preferred

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.

  • Position requires occasional travel to various Company and other business locations.
