Conagra Manager Research & Development in Omaha, Nebraska

We are looking for a Manager Research and Development to join our R&D team in Omaha, Nebraska!

As the Manager of Research & Development, reporting to the Senior Director of Research & Development, you will lead a team of 4-5 Food Scientists specializing in low-acid canned foods, including tomato products, chilis, beans, and brands like Chef Boyardee. Your role involves managing the technical team in the daily development and commercialization of new, improved, and cost-effective products. You will also act as a technical mentor and resource for the team, with a focus on thermal processing and aseptic techniques, and oversee technical project management to ensure operational excellence and delivery to specifications.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the main business contact for low-acid canned products.

  • Advocates for technological advancements, cost reductions, and innovations that are in line with the company's strategic objectives.

  • Trains, guides, and advances the skills of food scientists.

  • Leads the creation of technical work plans and carries out projects in collaboration with business units.

  • Communicates strategies, priorities, and directions to the team.

  • Responsible for outstanding product design, quality, and performance specifications for grocery items.

  • Oversees the technical team and cross-functional projects as a leader of the business team.

  • Develops and strengthens relationships with internal business and technical stakeholders.

  • Keeps a keen awareness of consumer and technical trends in the food sector.Establishes tactical goals to achieve business outcomes.

  • Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and positively influences Conagra Brands' standing in the technical field.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science or related field with minimum 10 years relevant work experience in the food industry.

  • Masters / PhD in Food Science or related field with minimum 8 years relevant work experience in the food industry.

  • Minimum 2 years people management experience with demonstrated ability to recruit and develop talent.

  • Thermal processing and aseptic expertise.

  • Experience developing and commercializing food products across a variety of product platforms and/or food processing technologies.

  • Exhibits leadership and demonstrated ability to influence technical and business partners.

  • Basic understanding of business and financial principles.

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.

  • Effective negotiating skills when working through conflict resolution.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work in and around cramped/confined spaces

  • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays to include loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions

  • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery

  • Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 6 hours as needed

  • May travel up to 30% of time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible CAG representative

  • Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens

We require applicants for this role to be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship either now or in the future.

This role is typically in the office Mon - Thursdays with some flexibility. Fridays are usually remote.
