Our Opportunity:

Charles Schwab’s Settlement Operations Department is responsible for the timely settlement (resolution) of open broker-to-broker transactions (International, Domestic and Physical), account reconciliation and resolving open cash balances while interpreting and following strict market/industry regulations and internal procedures. Our mission is to create memorable service experiences by delivering superior, consistent, and seamless Settlement service to both internal and external partners. What you’ll do:

As a Member of Settlement Operations you will work on a multi-functional team responsible for a wide array of Settlement responsibilities including International Settlements, Physical Settlements, Fail Control/Buy ins and Reconciliation. In this role, you will be responsible for the timely settlement of high volumes of broker-to-broker transactions, handling buy-ins, performing various reconciliation functions, managing and promptly responding to heavy traffic of email inquiries while maintaining high degree of accuracy and professionalism. You will be in frequent contact with brokers and depositories such as DTCC and Citibank while working to resolve open firm obligations and other miscellaneous inquiries. As part of frequent and regular departmental task rotations, you will be expected to adapt to these changes quickly, easily and seamlessly.

  • Demonstrate strong working relationships with Schwab’s operational and client-facing partners and all other support organizations. Take responsibility for delivering superior value and client service.

  • Continuously seek ways to educate and inform yourself about current policies, procedures, relevant industry news, online resources and products. Share information to educate peers and internal employees on available Schwab resources and policies when appropriate.

  • Participate in making the workplace an environment that leverages teamwork and client focus in delivering world class service by supporting colleagues, embracing diverse backgrounds, and maintaining a positive attitude. Proactively share ideas on improved efficiency and ways to improve service.

  • Display effective communication skills by respectfully listening to the ideas of others and offering support or providing alternate points of view (when appropriate). Constructive feedback is encouraged and should be discussed openly, professionally and in an effort to work out solutions and alternative methods to resolve outstanding issues.

  • Complete assigned training exercises (both mandatory and elective) to strengthen the knowledge and skills necessary to perform your job functions.

  • Support team engagement by taking an active role in the establishment of a team action plan, actively participate in successful execution of the plan through the year and participate in recognition programs.

  • Ensure Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) and accuracy as they relate to processing transactions, monitoring of the work queues and departmental email inbox are consistently met and/or exceeded.

S enior Specialist Grade Level 56

  • Handle escalated calls/inquiries when warranted and the ability to take action quickly in a high-risk environment by assessing and resolving the issue at hand.

  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to be a role model and mentor to your peers.

  • Work with others and coach them to develop their capabilities.

What you have:

Specialist Grade Level 55 and Senior Specialist Grade Level 56

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economic, or business administration or equivalent work experience.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-pace environment with strict deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in an environment with minimum supervision.

  • Intermediate level of knowledge regarding regulatory, audit and compliance policies regarding the securities industry.

  • Positive attitude, team oriented, enthusiastic, professional, forward thinker and strong work ethic, high emotional maturity.

  • Advanced technical skills, with the ability to use several different applications efficiently, including Windows, internet research, database systems, and email.

  • FINRA Series 7 preferred or ability to pass FINRA Series 99 within 6 months.

S enior Specialist Grade Level 56

  • 3+ years’ experience in brokerage/financial industry, with emphasis on customer service required.

  • Knowledge and experience with stock record and brokerage accounting required.

  • Excellent operational and follow-up skills with the ability to manage complex work are self- directed, and quickly develop a full understanding of our business.

  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory, audit and compliance policies related to the securities industry.

  • FINRA Series 7 and 9/10 required.
